A question I keep coming back to while building Sylva: what if social media optimized for participation, not just attention?

Spotted a car in Silicon Valley today with a bold message: “Consumer AI runs on Inworld.” What caught my attention wasn’t the ad itself. It was the fact that companies are now building infrastructure specifically for Consumer AI. When an emerging category starts attracting its own infrastructure providers, that’s a signal worth watching. Consumer AI is moving beyond a handful of breakout apps toward an emerging ecosystem. The picks-and-shovels are showing up. Now, who’s building the next generation of consumer experiences? 🌱 #ConsumerAI #AIStartups #BuildInPublic

I think Sylva is changing the way I see the world. 😂 Now everywhere I look, I see potential moments for Sylva. Spotted two creepy Halloween decorations, filmed them separately, and turned them into a “Staring Contest.” 👀🎃 Two random moments. One unexpected connection. I never imagined I'd become a creator when I started building Sylva. Now I can't stop discovering creative possibilities in everyday life. 🌱 #BuildInPublic #Sylva #Remix #Halloween #Creativity

I used to watch Saturday Night Live and sometimes wonder why the most absurd sketches were funny. It took me a while to appreciate that kind of humor. Today, while remixing two random Halloween moments, something clicked. A creepy scarecrow with glowing eyes. Then suddenly, a perfectly serious sign: “Please DO NOT Climb on the Pumpkins.” No logical connection. Just an unexpected shift from horror to everyday rules. 😂 Maybe creativity isn’t always about making things make sense. Sometimes, it’s about putting two unrelated moments together and discovering something unexpectedly funny. And maybe that’s something AI needs to learn, too. #SNL #AbsurdistComedy #Creativity #AI #Remix

Most consumer AI today focuses on productivity, AI companions, or content generation. But what if AI could create entirely new forms of human connection and shared creativity? That’s the future I’m exploring with Sylva. The vision is becoming clearer. The MVP is still early. A long road ahead — and that’s what makes building exciting. 🌱 #ConsumerAI #AINative #SocialAI #BuildInPublic

What if AI agents in social media weren't built to keep us scrolling, but to help us create together? At Sylva, we're exploring agents that discover unexpected connections, suggest remixes, and remove creative friction. Humans make the creative decisions. Automate friction, not participation. 🌱 #AIAgents #ConsumerAI #CreatorEconomy

Building a consumer AI product has taught me that every bit of friction matters. We started Sylva on World. Now we're opening another door with Google Sign-In on the web. The goal hasn't changed: make it easier for anyone to turn an everyday moment into something creative, fun, and connected. Less friction. More participation. 🌱 #BuildInPublic #ConsumerAI
🌱 Sylva is now easier to join! You can now access Sylva on the web and sign in with your Google account. One more barrier removed between watching and participating. Don't just watch. Add yours. 👉 joinsylva.framer.website/ #Sylva #ConsumerAI #BuildInPublic

The Chapter 11 filing by @character_ai has me thinking about consumer AI economics. Its challenges go beyond compute. But every AI reply costs money. Longer sessions can deepen losses if revenue doesn’t keep pace. Building Sylva, I want to deliver satisfying “aha” moments—even in a few minutes—and find a sustainable way to pay for them. Engagement alone won’t pay the inference bill. #ConsumerAI #AIEconomics

A new version of Sylva is here! 🌱 We’ve added AI-powered Video Understanding to help discover meaningful connections between two seemingly unrelated moments — and bring them together through transitions and captions. Still early, but one step closer to making creative participation accessible to everyone. Here’s a 30-second look at how it works. 👇
One moment. Many stories. 🌱 It starts with a simple question: “What are you looking at?” 🐶 Add your own everyday moment 🍦 and let AI help connect the dots. 🎬 Watch our new 30-second product demo! 🌐 joinsylva.framer.website/ #Sylva #AIRemix #SocialAI #CreateTogether

Much of consumer AI still treats attention as the prize: longer sessions, more time spent. With Sylva, I want people to leave satisfied—with an “aha,” a “wow,” or the joy of contributing—even if they only stay a few minutes. I know that’s harder to measure and monetize. But after seeing the costs of chasing attention, I believe it’s a direction worth pursuing. The road may be steep. I’m choosing to keep walking. #ConsumerAI #AINative #BeyondAttention #ParticipatoryAI

One thing I’m learning while building Sylva: General-purpose AI can understand what’s happening in a video. But meaningful social connections often depend on context that only a community shares. A climbing fall means something different to climbers. A late-night debugging session means something different to founders. This makes me think AI-native social products may need more than general-purpose models. They may need to understand — and gradually learn from — the cultures, humor, and shared experiences of individual communities. Still a hypothesis, but an interesting one emerging from building. #AINative #SocialAI #BuildInPublic #ConsumerAI

At #SFTechWeek, @zetaAI_’s founder shared two lessons: better storytelling drove metrics up; training their own model lowered inference costs, making scale more affordable. For Sylva: make the “aha” between videos better—and affordable enough to deliver again and again.

At @GoogleStartups x @nvidia for #SFTechWeek—where frontier AI meets real products. For Sylva: better video understanding, stronger remix connections, and lower inference cost, so AI helps more people participate—not just generate more content. ⚡️

As AI makes content nearly infinite, the scarce part starts to shift. Content becomes abundant. What’s worth noticing becomes scarce. Creation becomes cheap. Taste and judgment become valuable. Any single image, video, or idea can be generated. But knowing what belongs together — and why — still matters. And when AI can generate almost anything, human moments may matter for a different reason: This happened to me. I noticed this. It reminded me of that. I thought these two things belonged together. I chose to contribute it here. The value moves from simply producing more content to selecting, connecting, and contributing what matters. That’s a big part of what I’m exploring with Sylva: not how AI can replace human creativity, but how it can help ordinary human moments, taste, humor, and perspective become easier to contribute — and eventually easier to recognize and reward.

Long-term mission, short-term experiments. Create the value first; design how to capture and distribute it later.
“Tradeoffs that only pay off in 10 years will usually be underpriced.” Play the long game. When you think in decades rather than quarters, you’ll see that your potential customers have trajectories, not fixed sizes. Paul Graham on making startups more powerful: paulgraham.com/powerful.html

Someone left this comment on one of my robot videos, and it stuck with me. I’m excited about AI and robotics. But I hope the future isn’t just about finding more things humans no longer need to do. I’m more interested in technology that helps ordinary people contribute more, participate more, and capture more of the value they create. AI should expand human agency, not erase it.

One strange thing about building in AI right now: You can have a long-term mission and still find yourself redrawing the product architecture every few months. Models get better. Infrastructure changes. Things that looked hard suddenly become commodities. That doesn’t necessarily mean you’re losing direction. Sometimes the destination stays the same. The technology just keeps opening new roads.

.@Higgsfield’s growth highlights a powerful shift: AI is making content creation dramatically more accessible, while attention remains scarce. But I’m exploring a different question. What if AI could make it easier for ordinary people to contribute something valuable — without first having to become professional creators, build an audience, or run their own media businesses? Not just making content cheaper to produce or attention easier to monetize. Making human creativity easier to participate in, recognize, and reward. That’s the direction I’m exploring with Sylva. #AI #CreatorEconomy #ParticipationEconomy #ConsumerAI @higgsfield
