“Desire paths” are trails, usually bypassing a planned path, that reveal the most convenient route somewhere. The people (AKA meanderthals) that tramp along these routes often wear away grass, creating secondary paths.
Walk this way for more on desire paths (a thread / tread)...

always striking when you see an average family car from 50 years ago parked next to some modern monstrosity

A good lecturer is a good lecturer, irrespective of the visual aids. Give me a brilliant public speaker who writes the odd point on a whiteboard - or just talks - over someone who reads out a flashy but dull PowerPoint any day.

The good old days also involved being taught on a chalk board or overhead projector. Be careful what you wish for lol.

People are paving over their valuable garden spaces at an alarming rate, not realising, that the desertification of our mainly urban areas is destroying nature and biodiversity on our own doorstep. When are we going to realise, that our gardens count? 😏😢

As he said after he came off-air this morning, "I'm not leaving!" This is true, however, tomorrow sees @PetrocTrelawny's final time behind the @BBCRadio3 Breakfast mic after 14 wonderful years. Do listen if you can, as we raise a glass/a mug of tea to this brilliant broadcaster.

The last ever issue of The Musical Times - which seems rather symbolic...
The world's oldest continuously published periodical devoted to western classical music, founded 1844. Ended on our watch.

On top of all his other writing achievements, Vladimir Nabokov wrote the greatest ever recipe for a soft-boiled egg. It's one of the recipes by famous writers in this little volume which I wrote the foreword to. I'll be on @BBCFrontRow tonight talking about it w/ @JLQuoVadis

So far, every book I've written has a pivotal scene set in a library....funny that.

Today I tried to open a PowerPoint presentation from 1999. It didn't go well.
This was a useful reminder of the advantages of physical media. I have plenty of books from the last century. They all open easily and reliably.

Just met a (brilliant) female friend who showed me a professional document and asked me my opinion on it, before she submitted it. I noticed there was a typo in “mansplaining”. Wasn’t quite sure what to do.

A half century ago I tripped over a college door sill entering Combination Room during vacation. Rising to my feet I came eye to eye with Haold Macmillan. Not a missing a beat he smiled and said " Dear boy, gratitude one thing, prostration quite unnecessary"

A milestone moment as #sophiefromromania takes a treat outdoors from the hand of a stranger @BBCJoeInwood - Joe is more used to working in war zones so huge respect to him that he took this mission seriously and worked hard to gain Sophie’s trust

A 1920s Art Deco piano by Gaveau, with a circular bar attached. Can safely say I have never come across a piano quite like this before.
