THE APC ONLY FOUND A RHYME IN BOLA AND EBOLA .@officialABAT through Dele Alake and the @OfficialAPCNg have made a remarkable discovery: “Bola” sounds like “Ebola.” We had not noticed. They found the rhyme, wrote a lengthy press statement about it and somehow still could not tell Nigerians where the ₦10 billion ordered released for Ebola preparedness is. If only they searched the accounts with the same enthusiasm they brought to the dictionary. These aren’t just rhyming words; the effect of Bola’s policies is as deadly as the dreaded Ebola. Ebola destroys lives through disease. Bola’s policies have made food and medical care unaffordable and buried businesses that Nigerians spent years building. Yet the APC wants a debate about how two words sound.@atiku asked for the money trail and an account of the emergency response. The party in power came back with a pronunciation lesson. What an extraordinary way to tell a frightened country it has no answers. On 9 June, the Presidency announced that President Tinubu had ordered the immediate release of ₦10 billion for Ebola emergency preparedness. Now, with a case confirmed in Abuja, the APC says the money remains “untouched”. It presents that claim as a defence. It is an indictment of the Bola administration. Was the money released or was it not? If it was released, where is it held, who controls it, and why has it not been used for the preparedness President Tinubu announced? If it was never released, why was an order for its immediate release announced in June? Publish the release documents, the account records and the Task Force’s expenditure reports. Insulting Atiku Abubakar will not account for one naira. The APC says an infected person cannot transmit Ebola before symptoms appear. That is true. It does not answer what happened after symptoms appeared. According to the World Health Organization’s account, the patient developed symptoms on 7th October, sought care at a private facility on 11th October, and received laboratory confirmation on 20th October. When was Ebola first suspected? When were public health authorities alerted? When was testing ordered? When did contact tracing begin? The APC claims surveillance “tipped off” the government. Then publish the timeline. Name the agency that raised the alert, give the date and explain the action taken. 44 identified contacts are people whose health must be protected. They are not a trophy for an APC press release. Health workers treating the patient and tracing contacts deserve protection, equipment and every resource needed to act quickly. Questioning the government’s preparedness is no insult to them. Demanding applause for President Tinubu while refusing to explain an untouched emergency fund is an insult to Nigerians. The APC also objects to our warning that a health emergency must never be used to interfere with campaigning or voting. President Tinubu’s government can address that concern directly: publish any proposed restrictions, their medical justification and the advice of the health authorities. Public health guidance must protect people. It must never become a political tool. President Tinubu ordered ₦10 billion released in June. His party now says it is untouched. That contradiction came from the Presidency and the APC. They should resolve it with records. Show Nigerians where the money is. Explain the response timeline. Protect health workers. Trace every contact. President Tinubu and the APC owe the country answers not ‘Bola-Ebola’ tales. Nigerians Will Pay Fuel Tax When The Economy Becomes Stable — Minister of Finance, Taiwo Oyedele Nigeria’s Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Taiwo Oyedele, has said the Federal Government will introduce fuel taxes when the economy stabilises and citizens’ incomes can accommodate the extra costs. He disclosed this in an interview with ARISE News on the sidelines of the 2026 IMF and World Bank Annual Meetings in Bangkok, Thailand, explaining that the government would first consolidate its economic reforms, restore growth and improve household earnings. Oyedele said imposing additional levies immediately after petrol subsidy removal would have worsened Nigerians’ hardship. “You remove subsidy, you can’t immediately impose taxes. That would be insensitive. You push the people to the wall,” he said. The minister noted that fuel taxes account for between 20 and 80 per cent of petroleum prices in some countries, while several African nations impose multiple levies on fuel products. He said the proposed revenue would support infrastructure and help the country prepare for future disruptions in fuel supply. “Not because we want to impose taxes, it will be because those amounts of taxes will be dedicated into road infrastructure, they’ll be dedicated into building our fuel reserve, that can help us moderate prices of fuel products, if anything happens,” he explained. According to Oyedele, the arrangement could also allow the government to suspend the levies temporarily when necessary to cushion the effects of market shocks. “This is what more than 50 countries around the world, they were reducing the taxes, but we had no taxes, there was nothing to reduce,” he added. “There has to be an order published in the gazette by the finance minister, which means we can’t do it in secret,” he said. Oyedele maintained that the taxes would only be introduced when economic conditions improved sufficiently and Nigerians could understand the reasons for the policy and its expected benefits.

TINUBU’S 30-DAY FUEL DISCOUNT IS A PANIC-DRIVEN PUBLICITY STUNT-ATIKU Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has condemned the Federal Government’s proposed 30-day fuel discount at NNPC stations, describing it as a desperate, temporary gesture that cannot repair the damage caused by the crushing cost of fuel. In a statement issued by Phrank Shaibu, Director of Strategic Communication of the ADC Presidential Campaign Council, Atiku said the Tinubu administration’s attempt to dangle a fuel subsidy as bait for Nigerians was reckless, disgraceful and scandalous. He said the same government had watched Nigerians endure excruciating hardship without offering meaningful relief. Now, as the election draws closer, President Tinubu is dangling a temporary discount at the very epicentre of the cost-of-living crisis that has tormented households and businesses. “Atiku totally rejects this calendar-scheduled, election-laced subsidy package. Nigerians are not fools to be offered a month of discounted fuel after years of punishing prices and then expected to forget the hardship when the discount expires. This is shameless and heartless,” he said. Atiku said the proposed 30-day discount was not an economic plan but a political bandage on a wound the government had helped create. “What happens on Day 31? Nigerians wake up to the same brutal prices, the same punishing transport fares and the same rising cost of food. The government cannot manufacture relief for one month and expect Nigerians to applaud while the hardship remains,” he said. He noted that the offer is limited to NNPC stations, while the government has yet to state how much motorists will save per litre or guarantee that any savings for transport operators will be passed on to passengers through lower fares. The former Vice President said the administration’s sudden reversal on this sensitive social welfare issue was itself an admission of guilt over the hardship Nigerians have endured. It also exposed the weakness of the government’s repeated claims that meaningful relief was impossible. “This volte-face proves that the production-support proposal I have advanced is workable, achievable and not complicated. The Tinubu government and its spin doctors have tried to make it sound impossible, yet they are now reaching for a temporary subsidy-style intervention because the pain has become impossible to ignore,” Atiku said. He reiterated his proposal for capped and budgeted production support tied to fuel refined in Nigeria, with safeguards to ensure that the benefit reaches consumers and supports local refining. “Nigerians need lasting relief, not a countdown to the return of hardship. Tinubu’s government cannot spend years telling Nigerians to endure, then offer 30 days of relief and call it a solution,” he said. Atiku restated his commitment to making life affordable again. Tinubu made life expensive. I will make life affordable again. Phrank Shaibu Director of Strategic Communication ADC Presidential Campaign Council. 8th October, 2026

A 20-year-old phone seller, Olusola Olumide, has narrated how he crushed a police sergeant to death in Lagos. While on stop and search duty along Olugbede Street in the Egbeda area of Lagos State, police officers signalled Olumide to stop. He initially stopped but suddenly sped off as Sergeant Johnson Okediji approached the driver’s side. The officer was knocked down and dragged underneath the vehicle for several metres, despite repeated attempts by police officers and passers-by to make the driver stop. The driver was eventually chased and arrested. The officer sustained multiple fractures and head injuries. He was taken to a nearby hospital and subsequently referred to the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH), where he was pronounced dead on arrival. Debunking the Phantom Debts and Ecological Loan Fallacy My attention has been drawn to trending claims by the Anambra State Government that my administration left behind inherited debts, including a ₦2 billion ecological loan, contractor liabilities, and unpaid salaries, gratuities, and pensions. This is completely false. We systematically liquidated historical gratuities and arrears dating back several years, amounting to over ₦35 billion. At the point of handover, the state owed nothing in salaries, gratuities, or pensions, nor did we owe anything to any contractor for projects duly executed and certified. The ₦2 billion ecological fund in question was released barely three months before the end of my tenure for the Oko/Umuchiana erosion crisis. Despite pressure to spend the money, I refused, insisting that it should be left for my successor because government is a continuum and the funds were tied to a specific project. The money was therefore left 100 per cent intact in First Bank, in Account No. 2018779464, with a balance of over ₦2.13 billion. It is important to stress that funds tied to specific projects or set aside for particular purposes were not even included in the over ₦75 billion in savings we left behind. If anybody can establish anything to the contrary, I will stop campaigning. -PO

I have heard disturbing stories about the extent to which young Nigerians are being driven simply to survive. Perhaps the most horrifying are the growing reports of young people selling parts of their bodies: kidneys in particular, in desperate attempts to raise money. Young people should be selling dreams, ideas and innovation, not their body organs. Yet when the cost-of-living crisis becomes unbearable, desperation begins to make the unthinkable appear like an option. That should offend the conscience of every Nigerian. In Tinubu’s Nigeria, almost everything required to live with dignity is becoming more expensive by the day: food, transport, rent, school fees, medicine and electricity. Yet young Nigerians are reportedly being driven to sell their kidneys for as little as ₦1.7 million. That should break the heart of a nation. Young Nigerians should be building careers, starting businesses, raising families and pursuing their dreams, not calculating how much parts of their bodies can fetch simply to stay alive. When young Nigerians begin to see their kidneys as emergency savings, we are no longer talking about ordinary economic hardship. We are talking about desperation at its most frightening. Nigeria already has laws prohibiting commercial organ sales and organ trafficking. But laws alone cannot cure the poverty and desperation that make vulnerable young people easy prey for criminal networks. No government should celebrate “reforms” while young Nigerians are being reduced to selling parts of themselves to eat, pay rent, settle school fees or survive. Economic reform must have a human face. It must mean affordable food, cheaper transportation, accessible healthcare, decent jobs and renewed hope for the next generation. Our young people should be selling their ideas, talents and innovation to the world and not their kidneys for ₦1.7 million just to survive at home. This is the human cost of Nigeria’s cost-of-living crisis. Tinubu made Nigeria expensive. I will make Nigeria affordable again. -AA

AN OPEN LETTER TO NYESOM WIKE: YOUR FEAR IS WELL FOUNDED Letters from Stockholm Mr. Wike, You have finally said something I can agree with. You told the nation that your biggest fear is President Tinubu losing next year's election, and that whoever wins — Peter Obi or Atiku — will come for you first. You said, in your own words, "I know they will come for my head." Let me assure you, Mr. Wike: your instincts are correct. And let me tell you why. I, Kio Amachree, am doing everything within my power, and using every connection I have, to make certain that the man you have tied your fortunes to never sees a second term. I have written to President Trump. I have written to Secretary Kennedy, with whom my family's history is intertwined. I have written to FBI Director Kash Patel. I have written to the Secretary-General of the United Nations and to the Security Council. I have written to the Prince of Wales, to Boris Johnson, to Lord Cameron — my old school connections put to the service of Nigeria. Every letter says the same thing: examine the record of the man who calls himself President of Nigeria. And what is that record? It is not my invention. It sits in an American federal courthouse. In 1993, the United States government seized $460,000 from accounts linked to Bola Tinubu as proceeds connected to heroin trafficking — Case No. 93 C 4483, Northern District of Illinois. That is not gossip. That is a court record. On August 28, 2026, the FBI confirmed under sworn declaration that it carried out an investigation into his activities. And on that very same day, your principal filed papers fighting to keep those records sealed. Ask yourself the question every Nigerian is now asking, Mr. Wike: who fights this hard to hide files if the files contain nothing? An innocent man demands his records be published. A compromised man hires American lawyers to bury them. You say you think about the President's re-election when you sleep and when you eat. While you were thinking, your principal is spending three weeks on holiday in Europe as the case closed in around him, and no photograph with the American President materialised. The man you serve is fighting a rearguard action in a foreign courtroom, and even his loudest defenders are lowering their voices. You have chained yourself to a sinking anchor and you are only now noticing the water. And a word about Rivers State, Mr. Wike, because this is personal to my family's legacy even if it is not personal to you. My father, Chief Godfrey Kio Jaja Amachree QC, was among the founding fathers of Rivers State — Nigeria's first Solicitor-General, the first African Under-Secretary-General of the United Nations. On his grave and on my ancestors I make you this promise: the accountability that is coming for your principal will not stop at your principal. The emergency rule, the billions, the arrogance — all of it will be examined lawfully, openly, and without fear. Not mob justice. Épuration légale. Courts, records, questions, answers. So yes, Mr. Wike. Be afraid. Not of assassins — nobody wants your head. Be afraid of something far worse for men like you: due process. You wanted a fight. Let's tango. Kio Amachree Stockholm Disclaimer: References to the 1993 Chicago proceedings concern a civil forfeiture, not a criminal conviction. Matters before Judge Beryl Howell in Greenspan v. FBI/DEA remain in litigation. Questions raised here are questions, not verdicts; all persons named are entitled to respond. A CALL FOR ATTENTION TO PRESIDENT DONALD TRUMP President Donald Trump, I am calling your attention to the situation in Osun State, Nigeria, as we approach the election. There are growing concerns about tension and the possibility of violence, intimidation, or disruption of the democratic process. Osun people deserve to exercise their constitutional right to vote freely, peacefully, and without fear. I appeal to the United States and the international community to pay close attention to the election and encourage all relevant authorities to ensure that every voter is protected and every vote is respected. We do not want bloodshed. We do not want intimidation. We want peace, transparency, and a free and fair election. @realDonaldTrump

When a Government Declares War on the Truth President Donald Trump of America recently described Nigeria as “a now disgraced country.” The painful reality is that Nigeria’s challenges continue to deepen. Each passing day reveals deeper signs of decline, especially when a government becomes increasingly intolerant of truth and hostile to those who speak about the suffering of the people. The Catholic Church has never functioned as an opposition party in Nigeria. Across military regimes and successive democratic administrations, the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of Nigeria (CBCN) has maintained a principled voice on national issues and the nation’s conscience, commending governments when they deserved commendation and speaking the truth whenever national conscience demanded it. Its interventions are driven by a moral obligation, rooted in Christian social teaching, to defend truth, justice, and the common good. The same applies to Nigeria’s major religious organisations. Bodies such as Jama’atu Nasril Islam (JNI), the Supreme Council for Shari’ah in Nigeria (SCSN), the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), and the Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA) have repeatedly raised concerns over economic hardship, inflation, and insecurity. Living among the people, religious leaders often encounter the suffering of citizens firsthand. They speak because they witness families struggling with rising food prices, unemployment, and the fear created by kidnappings and insecurity. As leaders, we should be gracious enough to listen to people and organisations that speak the truth to us and genuinely criticise us when things are not going in the right direction. As Governor, I had the opportunity of working with a very strong Council of Traditional Rulers, led by the Obi of Onitsha, and religious bodies that consistently criticised me and offered suggestions. This contributed greatly to our success in Anambra State, especially in critical areas like education and health. Against this background, the attacks on the CBCN, and especially on His Eminence, John Cardinal Onaiyekan, are deeply troubling. Even in 1998, when Pope John Paul II visited Nigeria and told General Abacha some hard truths, including about the incarceration of Chief Moshood Abiola, nobody vilified him. During the inauguration of Pope Leo XIV in Rome, to demonstrate his purported commitment to and respect for the Catholic Church, President Bola Tinubu arrived in Rome days before the event, ahead of most other visiting dignitaries, including Catholics such as the U.S. Vice President, JD Vance. He participated in the liturgy, queued with other world leaders to greet the Holy Father, and displayed deep respect for the moral authority of the Church. Back in Nigeria, however, that posture has now changed completely. What is playing out today also reveals how political leaders sometimes exploit religion and ethnicity to divide the people. Even when it was obvious that the CBCN was speaking on issues affecting Nigerians across religious and ethnic boundaries, aides to the President immediately reduced it to a “religious affair.” The question is: are insecurity, poverty, inflation, unemployment, and hardship problems exclusive to a particular faith? Do these challenges recognise religious or tribal boundaries? The bishops merely expressed what millions of Nigerians experience daily: insecurity has worsened, poverty is deepening, inflation is crippling families, businesses are struggling, and hope is fading. These are realities echoed by religious leaders across the country, to whom successive governments gave thanks and promised to look into their observations. Rather than address these concerns or explain the measures in place to ameliorate them, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s aides and supporters responded with vicious attacks, particularly against Cardinal John Onaiyekan, with little regard for his age, stature, and accomplishments.

I commend the Catholic Bishops' Conference of Nigeria (CBCN) for demonstrating courage and patriotism by drawing attention to the realities confronting our nation. Their concerns regarding the rising cost of living, worsening insecurity, declining public confidence, and the hardship faced by millions of Nigerians are neither partisan nor isolated; they reflect the daily experiences of ordinary citizens across every region of our country. Nigeria is blessed with abundant human and natural resources, yet millions of our people continue to struggle under the weight of economic hardship, unemployment, insecurity, poor access to quality education and healthcare, and diminishing opportunities. These challenges demand urgent, sincere, and people-centred responses from those entrusted with leadership. I encourage all well-meaning Nigerians to continue constructively engaging the Federal Government and other leaders at all levels whenever the opportunity arises, advocating for good governance, accountability, and policies that prioritise the security, welfare, and prosperity of our people. It is through such collective commitment and responsible leadership that we can build a more peaceful, united, and prosperous Nigeria. May Almighty Allah continue to bless the Federal Republic of Nigeria. - RMK
