Thirty past and current University of Cincinnati students made the trip to Central Florida to watch something they built go to space — a small satellite designed to study how radiation impacts materials in deep space. It’ll be the first student-led satellite from Ohio to reach orbit. But now, there’s a catch. After multiple delays, they might have to head home before it actually launches. The UC CubeCats were set to watch their satellite lift off aboard a SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket (pictured) from Cape Canaveral. The launch has been pushed from April 8 to April 9, then April 10 — and now to Saturday at 7:41 a.m. The problem: the students only have funding to stay through Friday morning. So they’re asking for public support to help cover any extra costs. The UC Foundation has launched a fundraising effort to help cover any extra costs if the team decides to stick around.
