Film Feature 💡MLB Drew Clancy @clancy0110 Kennett High School MLB 6'3 230 Lbs. C/O 2027 Plenty to like here, let's get into it. First, I want to point out how well this young man moves at his size. I went back and double checked his height and weight a couple of times because of how comfortably he covers ground with that frame. ⏱️ :06 — Play Recognition + Pursuit Angles + Range Run it from :06. I love the look before the snap. He stays patient in his alignment and does not give away his movement early. Watch his response as the receiver comes in motion. He reacts almost immediately, showing recognition of the action, trust in his eyes, and timing with the snap. Now watch his track toward the perimeter. The initial reaction gets him moving, but how he closes the distance is the detail I want to focus on. Pause it right here at :10. He waits for the tight end to pull, then takes two strides vertically. I like the patience with the blocking picture here. He gains ground toward the play before cutting his angle toward the running back on the very next stride. Now run it. Watch how quickly he redirects his frame. There is no extended gather before changing his track. He makes the adjustment immediately and closes the space as the back heads toward the boundary. Then watch the finish. He gets across and clips the running back, disrupting his path and preventing a big play up the sideline. That contact is the payoff for the ground he gains and the angle he takes. I like seeing him erase that distance from the middle of the defense. He reaches the boundary in time to clip the back and prevent a big gain up the sideline. ⏱️ :12 — Downhill Burst + Knockback Power + Block Disruption Run it from :12. Watch how much ground he eats up in his first two steps. One, two, and he has covered roughly four yards, arriving directly into the lineman. His burst shows up immediately. He does not need a long runway to generate speed and bring force into contact. Now watch the strike. I like how he generates power through his base. His hand placement and continued leg drive create knockback, allowing him to defeat the blocker and disrupt the blocking picture before the run fully develops. Watch the work after the initial collision. He keeps driving through contact, making it difficult for the blocker to establish his position. The running back actually does a good job here. He stays patient behind the pulling tight end and tackle, allowing the blocks to develop before pressing the outside lane. But that patience cannot fix the disruption in front of him. The knockback affects the blocking the back is waiting on, and his work helps the defensive end finish the tackle. I like this rep because his impact comes through defeating the block. He breaks up the setup and helps create the stop, even though another defender finishes it. That is playing football fast. He gets to the point of attack before the run is established and brings the power to do something with that advantage. ⏱️ :42 — Movement in Space + Throwing Window Awareness + Controlled Pressure Run it from :42. The quarterback takes the shotgun snap and works into his drop. Watch him mirror the quarterback from the spy position. I like this look at his movement in space, but pay attention to where he places himself in relation to the passing game, too. Pause it right here at :44. The quarterback comes off his first read and turns his hips toward the far side for the next read. Now look at that initial throwing window. Our guy’s helmet is directly in it. He stays square between the quarterback and the intended target, closing the window with his positioning. That detail stands out. While tracking the quarterback, he is also occupying space the offense wants to throw through. He can affect that initial passing lane and remain in position to respond if the quarterback takes off. Now run it. Watch him work around the edge. He does not drift upfield or get reckless chasing the sack. He keeps his path controlled, staying connected to the quarterback’s position instead of letting the opportunity to make a play pull him past it. Then he finishes with the sack. The sack is the payoff, but his restraint is what stands out to me. He works around the edge without drifting upfield or giving the quarterback an escape path through an uncontrolled rush. ⏱️1:23 — Footwork + Hip Transition + Lateral Scrape Run it from 1:23 He starts this rep showing blitz right up on the line. I had to get this one in here because it gives us a good look at the technical detail in this young man’s movement. The quarterback takes the snap. Watch those first two short steps as he reads the backfield action and picks up the flow toward the far side. This is the transition I want you to focus on. Pause it right here at 1:27. Watch him plant that left foot and swing his hips into the lateral transition. He makes it look effortless. There is no wasted movement. He redirects without needing extra steps to reset his frame. Now run it. I also appreciate how square he stays as he works across the line. His shoulders remain square to the line of scrimmage while his feet carry him laterally with the flow. That positioning keeps him ready to trigger toward the ball as the play develops. Then watch the finish. He brings strength through contact and finishes solidly. That continues to show up on his tape. Even on a rep highlighting his footwork and movement in space, the physicality is still there when he arrives. Really good technical work here. For a player with his frame, that smooth change of direction followed by a strong finish is a combination I appreciate. 📖 What stood out to me initially was how well this young man moves with his frame. He is physically gifted, a built different type of player with the size, strength, and athletic ability that immediately catch your attention. After working through these reps, the footwork behind that movement deserves just as much attention. He shows the range to get from the interior to the boundary, but he uses recognition, timing, and efficient pursuit angles to put that athletic ability to work. There is patience in how he lets the blocking picture develop, followed by decisive movement once he identifies his path to the football. That combination allows him to cover ground with a purpose and affect plays outside the box. Inside, he brings the burst and strength to disrupt the run before the offense gets it established. His ability to generate force in a short distance stands out, and he carries that force into the blocker through his base, hand placement, and leg drive. I like that his impact is visible even when another defender finishes the tackle. Defeating a block and breaking up the structure of a run are valuable contributions at middle linebacker. He shows he can create that disruption rather than waiting for the back to reach him. His work in space is one of the biggest things I like about his game. He can mirror the quarterback, occupy a throwing window with his positioning, and transition into pressure without losing control of his approach. The sack rep gives a good look at that discipline. He stays connected to the quarterback and avoids drifting past the opportunity to finish. The later rep adds another technical layer, showing compact footwork, a clean plant, and a smooth hip transition before working laterally while staying square. Those details give him the ability to change direction and remain ready to react as the play develops. For me, the combination of movement efficiency and strength gives these reps their value. He can play patiently when the picture is still developing, play fast when it is time to close, and bring physicality when he arrives. His range shows up on the perimeter, his power shows up against blockers, and his control shows up when tracking the quarterback or ball carrier in space. Physically gifted middle linebacker whose footwork and control deserve as much attention as his size and strength. Film Link: xitter.cf/clancy0110/status/2104… Kyle Schwartz | SAS Film Room
