“Caving to political and industry pressure is a failure of EU leadership, and it puts one of our best chances to slow warming within our lifetimes at risk.”
CATF’s Brandon Locke highlights the impact of @EUparliament's decision to delay #methane import rules. catf.us/2026/10/eu-parliamen…
The Industrial Decarbonisation Bank (IDB), proposed under the EU ETS review, is an opportunity to turn Europe’s climate & industrial ambitions into investment decisions & operating projects.

Superhot rock #geothermal offers a pathway to zero-carbon, always-available power – but achieving this potential requires field-scale testing using infrastructure that is costly, technically complex, and often beyond the reach of individual companies.
Geothermal test centers provide shared infrastructure that can address these high initial costs and facilitate rapid innovation.

CATF, in partnership with the @CascadeInst recently published a series of reports on designing test centers to work effectively and unlock the potential of next-generation geothermal.

#Egypt is taking another big step in advancing its efforts to #CutMethane from its oil and gas sector.
@MOPEgypt, @CCACoalition, and CATF signed an agreement formally launching a project to develop methane abatement guidelines and capacity in the Egyptian oil and gas sector.
The work falls under the Fossil Fuel Regulatory Programme, which will work with Egypt to:
🔶 Develop methane abatement guidelines
🔶 Provide hands-on experience with emissions detection technologies
🔶 Engage companies on regulatory compliance
catf.us/2026/10/egypt-advanc…
The Fossil Fuel Regulatory Programme currently supports eight programs mitigating #methane emissions across seven countries, including Egypt, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Brazil, Ghana, Iraq, Kazakhstan, and Argentina’s Neuquén province.

CATF experts will be on the ground at #COP31, calling for climate action grounded in implementation by:
🔹Driving clean energy innovation
🔹Anchoring decarbonization in clean, reliable power
🔹Closing the waste methane gap
🔹Building durable partnerships

The @EU_Commission has proposed a one-year delay to the EU Methane Regulation's importer reporting requirements. CATF does not believe a delay is necessary. The challenge is implementation, not the Regulation itself.

EPA's delay of reporting requirements under the Greenhouse Gas Reporting Program harms public health, the environment, & American competitiveness.
The delay gives industry more time to pollute without providing the transparency the public deserves.

⚛️ NEW modelling from Politecnico di Milano commissioned by Clean Air Task Force quantifies for the first time the scale, financing, and siting conditions needed to bring down the cost of small modular reactors (SMRs).
catf.us/resource/from-fragme…
That is about 5–8 GWe of clean, firm power – a scale that signals a credible pipeline of projects with coordinated planning across countries.
At fleet scale, Europe can make SMRs more affordable, more bankable, and more useful for energy security, industrial competitiveness, and decarbonisation.

EPA signaled it is going to propose weakened #methane regulations for oil and gas, including for low-producing wells, which are responsible for almost half of the sector’s methane emissions despite producing less than 5% of the country’s oil and gas.
