It's worse. The ID verification isn't gonna track you, why? Because the government mandate doesn't enforce a system that one should use.
They're not going "please use this government built system and central database" - the government already know who you are, how old you are, etc..
I think, many people would, myself included, woild feel better if it was, actually part of your gov portal, you have an NI number. When you reach 16, bam, you get a code. You use that. (the ethics of if they're tracking every site you use it on is a different matter).
But no, that's not the case. The government outlines what they consider "approved methods" and let the site implement however they wish. The government doesn't give a fuck if you need to upload your id sitting on some non-gdpr server in the US, or China, all it cares is "does this site tick the compliance box of verification".
The dumb cunts don't even audit how your data is stored or if it's secure. They care about one thing. If it's there.
This isn't about "tracking you" they can't track you, it's about 2 things
1. Trying to having another income streme from fining companies money and
2. Trying to tick a box to appease the popularist to get a vote in while using the guise of "save children".
This was never about tracking. The current implementation isn't compatible with (government) tracking.
And before you go "oh, but the uk is shit, etc.." some states in the US, Austrilia, and many other countries do this already. It's not new.
