“BY AMIGANS, FOR AMIGANS”? AEONKit files IP complaint, takes down TheA1200 event photos from Facebook. So much for community spirit. 🙄

Some people can’t grasp the nuance of “I use the tool appropriately” vs “ALL GLORY AND PRAISE TO THE TOOL! THE TOOL IS GOD! THE TOOL IS SALVATION!”

NEW: America is a rich country. Britain is a poor country with one wealthy region. People love to compare the UK to Mississippi, but it’s far more informative to look at UK subnationally, too. London ranks fairly well, the rest of the country does not 👉 ft.com/content/e5c741a7-befa…

(🧵) This is the story of how far-right snowflakes afraid of free speech and facts—obsessed, instead, with their Big Important Feelings and using speech to brutalize others—destroyed Twitter. I hope you’ll follow along and share this to the extent the Musk Algorithm allows it.

Everyone wondering why scientists ignore these “debate me bros.” Here’s what happened when I, and a few colleagues, made arrangements to debate Steve Kirsch and his claims on vaccine myocarditis. I was to talk about the GMP regulatory problems of his claim respectfulinsolence.com/2023…

A group of San Franciscans realized that they can disable Waymo and Cruise robotaxis by placing a traffic cone on the vehicle's hood. They're now encouraging others to do it: "Hell no, we do not consent to this."

McCullough et al attempted upload a preprint to the Lancet server, and it was removed because it was hot garbage. However, I feel going through this paper for you guys will help you spot dodgy science 🧵:

There are plenty of occasions when Musk has done something which appeared an obviously terrible decision to ordinary people, and in time it turned out that in fact it really was a very bad decision.

We're moving away from having an IRC channel (since it was very under-utilised) and instead have created a Discord server. If you would like to chat about Hammerspoon, ask questions, get support, or just lurk, here is the invite link: discord.gg/vxchqkRbkR

A recent work from @iddo claimed GPT4 can score 100% on MIT's EECS curriculum with the right prompting. My friends and I were excited to read the analysis behind such a feat, but after digging deeper, what we found left us surprised and disappointed. dub.sh/gptsucksatmit 🧵

I love that one of humanity's oldest traditions is asteroid mining. This paper finds that every iron object made before 1,200BCE came from space, forged from hammered meteoric iron, including King Tut’s dagger & Inuit lances (in images). Meteoric iron was worth more than gold.
