Question: what is the most *expensive* model training that has been conducted for a machine learning academic paper, priced at market price? (eg if the researchers were at Google, I'm curious about how much it would have cost for non-Googlers, etc)

Excellent thread on affirmative action and ML -- applies to many other prediction and inference problems, too.

Happens again & again, not just in psych. If research results are astonishing, think very hard about whether they are, literally, unbelievable. (Thinking of NPS.)
“I’m not saying there should be a big grovelling apology for the massively overhyped claims” @StuartJRitchie is more forgiving than me. I want apology. If the “hype first, accuracy later” approach is ok, researchers can cash in our field’s credibility for personal advancement.

Since then, I've stopped using Scrum. It was my first step to reduce meetings in my teams. Beyond the time actually spent in meetings, they are also a big distraction for people who need to do deep work. Here I wrote more about 7 ways I replace meetings with async processes:
Meetings are the worst! They burn people out and nothing gets done. My tweet on meetings and burn out last week hit a nerve. It resonated with a lot of folks. These are 7 steps I follow to aggressively reduce meetings. A short 🧵
