The Air District Board voted today to strengthen building appliance rules to reduce harmful NOx and PM2.5 emissions, protecting public health and air quality. New regulations will phase out NOx-emitting natural gas furnaces and water heaters. Learn more: baaqmd.gov/news-and-events/p… – at Vine Hill, CA

At BAAQMD, we just adopted historic clean air rules, sending a clear market signal to accelerate the development and expansion of zero NOx furnaces and water heaters.

Replying to @California_HCD
@California_HCD don't play. Despite our best efforts to strengthen Berkeley's Housing Element, HCD says we have more work to do 👇🏽 Specifically, HCD tells Berkeley to fix our sites inventory & do more to affirmatively further fair housing. Gotta keep pushing!

"the price of housing should increase faster than inflation over time" is catastrophically bad public policy. in fact, an interesting framework for setting public policy would be "make everything get less expensive over time".

This is what state climate leadership 🌎 on buildings 🏙 looks like!! Well done, @GovInslee & WA Building Code Council. Who's next @GavinNewsom @KathyHochul @USClimate ? #ActOnClimate
Buildings are our state’s second largest source of emissions. Clean buildings are more efficient, and healthier for people and our planet. Thanks to the Building Code Council for helping our state lead the way!

the days of usenet, irc, the web...even email (w PGP)...were amazing. centralizing discovery and identity into corporations really damaged the internet. I realize I'm partially to blame, and regret it.

... folk in SF are prob. infected. (FYI, this % @UCSF was 0.4% [1-in-250] 1 mth ago. Remember, this means that if you go into an indoor space w/ 15 people, it’s almost certain that someone is breathing out live virus. Can’t think of better argument for N95 or equivalent.(9/20)

You can see in this chart the result, a plunge in generation just as demand begins to soar. My crudely drawn red lawns represent the delta between generation and demand. At 7 a.m. Monday morning the difference was about 20GW.

You have probably heard many observers mention that this is a systemic failure rather than a breakdown of an individual technology like wind or gas. That's easier to see visually. Note how all power generation falls of a cliff around midnight on Monday morning.

So what is leading to widespread and long-lasting electricity outages in Texas? 1. Total electricity demand was ~3,000 MW over the "Extreme Peak Load" scenario ERCOT planned for. 2. Thermal power plant outages were 10,000-16,000 MW over the "Extreme Generator Outages" scenario.

This #TexasFreeze event is FAR outside what ERCOT planned for. Their 2020/2021 Winter Resource Adequacy Assessment estimated a worst case scenario "Extreme Pead Load/Extremee Generation Outages" scenario that included 13,953 MW of total thermal outages ⤵️ ercot.com/content/wcm/lists/…
