Apparently I got a DM from @RoyalMail giving me a link to their track and trace website, which I’ve already said didn’t work. Pointless, useless, worthless time wasters.
So I get an email from @RoyalMail which says “We've now returned your parcel to Your Seller, please contact them for any further information.”
Which would be fine except: Who is “Your Seller”? What’s the parcel? Why is it being returned? Why didn’t you deliver it? How do I contact “Your Seller” about a parcel I’ve no idea what it is. Oh, and the tracking number doesn’t show anything.
What an absurd system. They return a parcel I don’t know to a company I don’t know and tell me I have to contact whoever it is that I don’t know about a parcel I don’t know.
Oh, and Royal Mail’s email address is “no-reply@…” so I can’t even reply to them to find out more.
Royal Mail is a joke.
Whatever the parcel was, I’ll just have to presume I won’t get it because there’s naff all I can do about it.

I don’t particularly care who’s responsible for it. I watched several short videos tonight from different content creators and the frequent ads became interminable. They’re all several ads in a 40-50s segment having only had a couple of minutes of content. And the ad cuts in arbitrarily in the middle of dialogue.
But that’s fine. Just chasing me away won’t affect your income, I’m sure, and will no doubt please your advertisers.
Is @YouTube on advert overdose tonight? Watching short 12 minute videos, and there’s a minute-long ad every 2-3 minutes. Eventually the thing just froze up on me and I quit.
I guess YouTube are going out of their way to chase viewers away these days.

I think what gets me about these mistakes (not just Claude) is that they’re all like “You’re right, I was wrong, and I caused nuclear war because of it. Anyway - moving on…”. 😂

Depends what you want. Many people want to look into local AI. Other people don’t.
I have a relative who has the Neo, and it’s awesome for what she does. I recently picked up the old M1 MBA from 6 years ago as a secondary machine. It’s surprisingly capable.
What does “lack power” mean to you? That’s the question that needs an answer.

Another episode in the series “Here’s what you can do with that which you can’t afford.”
I find myself enjoying going back to videos of over a year ago when YouTubers showed us what we could do with hardware we can afford, or already have.
This modern fixation with “here’s $30k of hardware, watch me run an LLM you’ll never be able to run” doesn’t appeal as much.

“educate him on”. The problem with local AI right now is that it’s going the way of Linux. There will soon need to be a new inference engine, new magical incarnation, new optimisations, more settings, more complexity, that all just puts up barriers for new people wanting to try local AI.
Hate on me if you like, but this kind of thing is the reason the general public avoid Linux. At least @LinusTech is showing what it’s like for a newbie who just wants to see what it’s all about. I applaud him for that.

It’s always fun seeing William Daniels in some other TV show and you’re like “he sounds like KITT”. That’s really his voice. What a star!

You often post this kind of thing, but it’s not general.
I will, and have, paid £2.99 and more for an app if it does what I want. I will not, never have, and never will pay over £700 for a phone. And if I pay that, it’s needs to be a ****ing good one!

I can understand them needing a name with gravitas to sell a film about a guy in a costume when most people’s memories of a “guy with a cape” was the 60s Batman TV series. They risked a flop, so they gambled with a big name. Did they do any different 10 years later when the ”star name” in Batman was Jack Nicholson, not Michael Keaton? Even today, the “names” in the latest Superman movie were the other characters, not the guy playing Superman.
To me at that time, I wanted to see Superman come alive. When I finally got to see the movies, it was for the guy in the costume. Marlon who? And why was Lex Luthor playing it like a joke?
In the long haul, Christopher Reeve made it work and he left behind a legacy that we‘ll always enjoy. Because of Superman. Not because of the names of the actors.

I’m only on Pro. When I kept hitting the 5-hr limit, my solution was to sub to Codex to pick up the slack until the 5-hr reset. By having the 5-hr limit, Anthropic sent me to their competitors.
I would much rather just have a weekly limit. I only have one or two days off work in a week and I’d like to be able to do all of my coding during that time. Only getting a little bit of work done between resets, and then paying for 5 days of 7 that I can’t use is just a nonsense.

No, no - subway shootouts FTW! Every time I play one of your videos, I hear a voice from the other room: “Has he got to the subway bit yet?” I need you to go back through your old videos and insert a subway shootout. 😂

"How dare you spend your money on RAM for yourself. You should be spending money on me so I can buy the RAM for myself." What an arrogant man.

I largely agree because that's how I was for most of my life. Then life got in the way, bills had to be paid, and most of the week is taken up doing a non-tech job just to get a few quid to go on living.
Now "staying up late" is no longer an option. Being able to "vibe code with Claude" on the few hours I get to myself on my day off has allowed me to feed my tech/coding "buzz" that I need to see things being developed.

That’s exactly what I was thinking. You could pay £30K and still not fit the largest open weights models in there. And, even if you out the largest model it can hold on there, it’s not going to be frontier fast anyway. Sometimes, it pays to look at what can be done without just “throwing money at your ego”, which is how some YouTubers come across sometimes.
Something as humble as the M6 Mini with 32GB is quite competent for home AI/LLM work. And you could buy 23 of them for the price of the top 512GB Studio.
You need a real use case to spend £30K for a desktop computer.
I’m glad the 512GB Ultra exists because, if they ever get cost under control, it indicates that the future may bring really outstanding hardware for local AI.
Replying to @jayleaton
Regardless of the speed, one machine has one GPU. For the same £30K for the top end 512GB Studio, you could buy 23 M6 Mac minis each with 32GB, each with their own GPU. The former gives you GPU contention with multiple tasks, the latter gives 23 tasks their own GPU. Crazy world.

At £30K, I was thinking of maybe getting 23x M6 Mac minis 32GB instead. 😂

Given the prices these days, I think the M4 Pro/Max was the good time to upgrade.
