Do we have the All Star game to blame for those horrible Pacers unis? Or the unis to blame for this garish LED court? #NBAAllStar2024

Poets are language workers who build portals toward freedom, who imagine better worlds allowing us to see each other clearer, more human. Oppressive powers want us to believe cruelty is inevitable. It is the poet who says, “there is another way.” Free Mosab Abu Toha.

Saw #Barbie last night and honestly loved it. So fun. A real good mix of saccharine and poignant for a movie about a toy. BUT one of the most interesting plot points was with the Kens: they could be irreverent, silly, and sexy in how they grappled with what it means to be a man…
Whereas with the Barbie, I felt the filmmakers couldn’t stray from a more middle of the left stance on what it means to be a woman. Like, there’s a *right* way to say there’s no right way to be a woman. It was touching at times. And expected.
But the sequel ppl seem to want is with Ken bc who tf knows what it means to be a man today?! And seeing them play that ambiguity through Ken’s naive wandering was really funny and provocative… (unfort that’s NOT the main convo we should be having about #Barbie !!)
this, folks. this. 👀

When I ask my creative professional community how they feel being the tip of capitalism’s spear… *this* is what I’m talking about. We consume culture without context, place swipe (stolen “inspiration”) in mood boards and pitches, and drive capitalist’s agenda.
we need to be intentional about when we are drawing inspiration and building on the shoulder's of previous thought-leaders vs when we're capitalizing on someone's thinking/art/culture/perspective for our own—or our client's—gain. Building is in dialogue with the source…
