Every single school should have a library & a librarian, to help every single child find the books that will make them readers, and give them all the lifelong benefits of literacy. Libraries & librarians change children's lives FOREVER! #literacy #libraries #librarians

#ReadingRevolution
What does this look like in action?
We want to see:
🏫Permanent funding for school libraries in every school in the country
🧑🏫Support for teachers and educators in the form of relevant CPD
📈The expansion of the JCSP School Library Demonstration Project to all DEIS schools in Ireland
📚More excellent and inclusive books in schools
Use your vote and your voice to ensure that reading for joy is a priority for the next government.

I think frequently of something my smart librarian friend once said — if school libraries didn’t work, private schools wouldn’t pay for them. A lack of a funded school library for every school and the cutting of libraries around the country is such a factor here.

I met a girl reading a biography about Taylor Swift. She was SO excited to tell me about it and explained she *might* try a fiction book next but she loves TS so maybe not. This is what we want. Excitement! Reading shouldn’t feel like eating your vegetables.
I've been following the work of @naomicfisher for a while, and the need for an alternative space for learning for our school avoiders. The "third space" for so many is the library. Check out the latest substack post naomicfisher.substack.com/p/… The learner-led @jcsplibraries are vital
