2. I've nothing but respect & gratitude for the people on the ground trying to stop #Ebola in North Kivu. But this isn't going well. There were 45 cases this week (Nov. 18-24). In Sept. there were some weeks with <10 cases. The longer this burns, the harder it will be to stop.

5. Last thing: Every time there's a violent incident in North Kivu — where sadly violence is too common — the virus gets a bit of an edge on the people trying to stop it. Sunday's violence at Beni halted vaccination Monday & impeded contact surveillance. Ebola in a war zone.

#Ebola thread: @MinSanteRDC reported +5 cases today & 4 deaths. Outbreak totals are 298 confirmed & probable cases & 186 deaths. If there are another 18 cases, North Kivu will surpass the 1995 Kitwit outbreak to become the 4th largest Ebola outbreak. Seems likely.

The #Ebola case count in DRC is holding at 142 cases, 97 deaths. Sunday was the last time new cases (2) were reported. This likely isn't over, but slowing of growth is a very good thing. And look at the number of people who've been vaccinated!
