Highly recommend meeting one of your favorite artists of all time and getting to tell him how much his work means to you in person.
10/10 experience. 🥹
Movies are sacred to me, which means I care about the conversation around them. Letterboxd has successfully monopolized contemporary film discourse. I’ve compromised by creeping on it without having an account, which still shows how inescapable the platform's control has become.
Let’s talk about Letterboxd as a mediated digital space reflective of Baudrillard’s hyperreality next (my favorite subject currently)! That’s largely what I was getting at with this tweet. Are you using the app….or is the app using you?
Anti-art, pro-corporate synergy. Get right with God, my man. Please.
“To be friendless is indeed to be unfortunate; but the hearts of men, when unprejudiced by any obvious self-interest, are full of brotherly love and charity.” - Mary Shelley, Frankenstein (1818)
Most important lesson for humanity to learn is that it is completely normal for the qualities that you look for in a relationship and behaviors in sex that turn you on to be two vastly different things.
Tempted more and more these days to put Mike Flanagan in my list of top 10 favorite filmmakers ever. 🤔
Have a sneaking suspicion that I’m probably gonna be in the minority and dislike You Can See Everything. Something about Nathan Fielder rubs me the wrong way….
Really love that I chose (actually somewhat stumbled into) a framework for my thesis that theorizes about and discusses emotions and feelings as they pertain to larger cultural/aesthetic discourses lol. Four months out from finishing my Masters and still pinching myself! A coup!
As you proceed further into academia, you soon realize you’re facing down the barrel of inevitably becoming an elitist asshole. Seeing as to how it’s looking more and more probable that I am going to do this whole PhD thing, I need to try and remain as humble as possible.
Watched Event Horizon in the cinema last night (my first PWSA on the big screen!) and…I really, really liked Laurence Fishburne in this movie. A MAN!!!
I too dislike Letterboxd and think it has largely been a net negative for movie watching because literally every social media app rewires your brain to look at the world in more algorithmic terms. But I learned a long time ago that complaining about that really riles people up.
