I'm celebrating my 11th VegAnniversary week by moving to the veganism.social server on Mast*d*n. Will truly miss the community here and hope we can connect elsewhere. You can also find me on Facebook and of course

Fabulous, moving story about honeybees, native bees, and biodiversity. Glad my pollinator garden serves as a local hedgerow for native bees and other insects. Thanks, @ashleybraun!
As ecosystems that are oceans apart begin to look the same, scientists fear we have put nature through an “anthropogenic blender.” Scientists and beekeepers in California would like to change that, @ashleybraun reports for @bioGraphic:

Excellent series by the @newsobserver highlights the human suffering caused by the stench, vultures, and more from raising chickens. Sad thing is we no longer have to rely on chicken for food, but people eat birds and eggs anyway.

Wonderful piece on sweet potatoes by @KatherineJWu. Funny and informative. theatlantic.com/science/arch…
I usually eat them baked or microwaved under bean stews instead of rice, but here are some Thanksgiving-worthy recipes, all without marshmallows. cookforgood.com/?s=Sweet+pot…
She has a funny line about sweet-potato casserole and Big Confection. Lo, the next story I read was on how the American Crystal Sugar Company Pac was second only to Koch in donating to election-denying candidates. 🙀

#Thanksgiving Feast plan:
* Tues: finish shopping, make cranberry sauce, bake squash for pie and bread for stuffing
* W’day: make pie, tear up bread for stuffing, decorate
* TG: bake Celebration Roast and stuffing, mash potatoes, cook gravy and green beans, roast Brussels sprouts
Also feed my feelings of gratitude, go for walks, take photos of birds and plants, share them on @inaturalist, express 🎉💕🙏
In case you need another terrifying study or reason to eat organic food. Astonishing that we risk “forever” contamination of crop land.
The EPA knows that plastic containers are leaching toxic ‘forever chemicals’ into pesticides. But PFAS are also ending up in pesticides from other sources—in much higher quantities. buff.ly/3UAxm8y

Really loved being part of the vegan and environmental community here for years. May we all stay connected and continue to work for a green, kind, and just world.
Favorite vegan Thanksgiving recipes good enough for everyone and good for the Earth. I woke up this morning thinking about the stuffing. cookforgood.com/favorite-tha…
What do you say when a close friend says: “I just took someone I love overseas as a reward for X. Don’t hate me for flying.” I don’t *hate* her, but am disappointed and frustrated. Usually I just ignore travel, but this is a direct ask. @FlightFreeUSA @FlightFreeUK @TheClimateCC
My theory is that one of the reasons people travel is because it’s almost a guaranteed way to get positive responses from others: ooo, Paris! Egypt! Australia! The more distant, the more likes. So I mute travelers for 30 days on Facebook and when pressed say “safe travels.”
If we were being rational, we'd end industrial beef agriculture and be well on our way to ending the aviation industry in 2023. We'd also develop an international treaty for no new fossil fuel projects, and we'd nationalize and ration fossil fuels to protect the working class.
Bizarre conclusion: keep eating animals but have them raised by more and smaller companies while ending factory farming. This doesn’t reduce methane and converts vastly more wild areas to grazing. 🤦🏻♀️

Small nod at the very end to healthier and more sustainable diets. iatp.org/emissions-impossibl… But Shefali Sharma, director of the IATP’s European office, told @guardian that they are not asking people to go vegan or vegetarian. Why not? #ClimateEmergency
An easy way to stop supporting factory farms is to stop buying what they produce. No customers -> no business. #GoVegan
Did you know? Agriculture ranks THIRD among all occupations in fatal injuries! Yet, @CivilEats found farmworkers have little to no protections in the U.S. 😟 #ProtectFarmers #StopFactoryFarms civileats.com/2022/11/14/inj…
Wonderful tribute to thrifty cooking, which turns out to be green cooking too.
