Or go around telling people that all the POC left for better paying gigs and bigger orgs. It might be true that's where they went, but it's often not *why*

this industry — yes, nonprofit included — will never improve or change or solve any of the problems it claims to want to solve if this is how newsroom leaders frame the departures of employees, especially BIPOC women, due to burnout.

"I retired at 32! So can you!" says the person who's not really retired, but running an online business with questionable advice, e-courses, advertisements, sponsored hyperlinks, cookies, and pop-ups promising that you, too, can someday tell people "I retired at 32! So can you!"

This is why you pay for journalism. Open records requests are available to anyone (and should be!). But most people won’t file 113 requests and respond to challenges and then compile all the info they get back into something that makes sense. That’s worth something.

In case anyone still doubts there is a diversity and inclusion problem in the journalism industry, here's a morsel of evidence: I was excited to check out the new "The Best American Newspaper Narratives, Volume 7." I checked the table of contents. All the writers are... white.

Guess who have been mentors to BIPOC creators? BIPOC creators. We're good on that. HIRE us as EPs, GMs, CEO's, so we can make the difference you think you're making (that you aren't).

Like I said before, we *all* have the receipts from our time @stlpublicradio ... and plenty in the industry knew about it. A secret this was not.

This letter took courage and an enormous amount of vulnerability. I stand with my Queen in every way possible. Her dedication to @stlpublicradio in the midst of racism is commendable. #KeepStanding #WeGotTimeToday #RacisminPublicMedia
