Im so sorry but imagine restricting your ships based on morals and societal values omg.. like do yall take print outs of fics you allow yourself to read to Sunday School or something?? Does your pastor approve of which guy you have taking a polite modest sized hog up his poozie??
Saw an interesting discussion about what to do about certain tags like MCD when you don't want to spoil your audience of major plot points, and it made me realize how different it used to be back in the ff .net days. There was no such courtesy most of the time.

i feel so disconnected from everyone in my life and even from people on here i’m just incurably lonely and i can’t connect with anyone to save my life
From the way people tend to argue about shipping, I feel like what many don't understand is that you can't really choose which characters and relationships you like. Your brain will just get attached to a ship for whatever reason and that's it. At least that's my experience.
Everyone around me is so fed up with me and I get it, but I just can't help that I'm like this rn I wish I'd stop too

This is so funny. I used to write for FORUMS. You posted IN THREAD and everyone would reply under your chapter and hype you up. Posting into the void wasn't a thing. Engagement was the NORM.
Reading fanfic as "consuming content" is a new thing.

I want to hop in on this because, by all means, I am considered an "older gen writer."
First of all, Fanfic dot net and Wattpad authors used to literally hold chapters hostage until a certain "Like" or "Comment" threshold was met. People still make memes about it to this day, so don't try to play revisionist on this piece of history.
Second, a lot of this isn't about statistics. It's about acknowledgement. I wrote a couple decently well-received fanfics as a teen, then went on to pursue writing professionally in college. And I can pretty confidently say I only got this far *because* my fanfics were well-received and people engaged and encouraged me to keep going.
Yes, you should write for yourself. Yes, you shouldn't write for views or engagement. And as a writer, I've always written what *I* want to read. But people liking and/or commenting was literally what gave 15-16-year-old me the message that "Hey, I like reading this stuff too! Keep going!" Otherwise, I would've given up and kept my writing in the Google Drive for my own enjoyment and leisure. Besides, it's in our nature to seek approval and like-minded people who enjoy the same things we do. It's the exact same reason why people are sharing fics right now on drives when ao3 is down, is it not? Because we enjoyed these stories, and we want more people to be able to access them so we can talk about them.
Big production TV shows literally axe series that don't meet the projected numbers or ratings. It's so easy for fanfic authors to fall into the same trap of "why invest so many resources into something no one will interact with or consume?" Big productions ask for monetary support. All fanfiction authors ask for is a little time out of your day to leave a kudos or comment if you've enjoyed it. We talk all the time about "Supporting Real Artists." That doesn't just pertain to visual art. Literature is art too, even if it's fanfiction.
I've been reading fics from these drives/wayback machines during ao3's downtime too, but I have everything listed down so I can go back and properly kudos them when the site is back up to show my appreciation. Because I know I would've appreciated that too when I was a budding young writer.
Can't believe it's only been a week

This one’s for one specific trans friend who woke up in Blexas this morning. But it’s also for everyone.

my red flag is that if you don’t talk to me, i won’t talk to you either. not because i don’t want to talk to you, but because i’ll think you don’t want to talk to me, so i’ll give you space rather than risk bothering you lol
I really am so tired of going to sleep crying, then waking up crying, then crying all day for no apparent reason, rinse and repeat
Being 13 was a nightmare in so many ways, but I really miss the specific way in which I enjoyed things. I feel so childish, but it's just. Nothing will ever be the same anymore. It's like walking into your room and finding everything slightly turned to the left.
Do you ever grieve over very small, kind of stupid things that should be inconsequential but somehow they feel unbearable?
