instead of giving your agents / llm whatever a soul.md, tell it to never use first person, that it is an llm, not an "i"
its amazing, never going back

I might be one of the few people who is most bearish on human research taste and bullish on automated research:
- "AIs can only do hyperparameter search" is mainly a skill issue with bad automated research setups.
- human taste is overrated, e.g. frontier labs / neolabs are doing pretty simlar things.
- human taste might win in a low-compute world, but not a high-compute world we're entering.
Thariq,
Firstly, huge respect to you and your team for the innovative work on Claude Code over the past year.
But "mostly" doesn't cut it here. Yes, one of the metrics in the report is flawed due to your change hiding the thinking traces. That doesn't invalidate the other objective behavioral metrics showing severe degradation.
This is a high profile user who put a huge amount of effort into communicating exactly what they were seeing with more rigor and precision than Anthropic provides regarding changes. Thousands of other users are shouting about their similar experiences.
Anthropic has won a lot of love from developers. There are only two ways to retain that love when performance drops:
1) Fix the problem
2) Be transparent about necessary compromises/tradeoffs, including explaining what changed in detail
If this level of transparency will alienate users, that requires some soul searching.

boris responded to this in depth in the issue- it's mostly just that we stopped showing thinking summaries for latency (you can opt-in to showing it) which was affecting the thinking measurement in the post

Opus is so unbelievably nerfed today, it's like talking to a model from 2-3 years ago. What is going on
‼️Do not npm install or deploy anything right now
Supply chain attack on axios 1.14.1 - even if you don’t use axios it may be a nested dep.
Pin versions or wait until this is resolved
Replying to @npmjs
@npmjs @GHSecurityLab there is an active supply chain attack on [email protected] which pulls in a malicious package published today - [email protected] - someone took over a maintainer account for Axios

My dear front-end developers (and anyone who’s interested in the future of interfaces):
I have crawled through depths of hell to bring you, for the foreseeable years, one of the more important foundational pieces of UI engineering (if not in implementation then certainly at least in concept):
Fast, accurate and comprehensive userland text measurement algorithm in pure TypeScript, usable for laying out entire web pages without CSS, bypassing DOM measurements and reflow

Now that anyone can build an app, everyone finally realizes that building the app wasn't the hard part.

I have a slightly different take on the Anthropic situation.........
People are abusing Claude Max plans and running them automated (Ralph Wiggum etc)
That's NOT what these ((very, very generous)) plans were for and it says so in the TOS.
Adjusted some of my own projects but I get why: you're getting like $1500 worth of API usage for $200 on Max.
They're subsidizing this for HUMAN users. Not for Ralph Wiggums.
I get that there's frustration but throwing fits will probably get Max ended.
You do not want Max ended. Isn't Anthropic's POV on this reasonable?

"Vibe coding isn't real engineering."
Cool. I just did a 2 hour CDN overhaul that cut bandwidth by 99%, dropped costs from $12K to $200/month at scale, and required zero backend changes.
While you're gatekeeping, we're shipping.
Stay skeptical. It's a competitive advantage for us.

kids demand the same story every night drive me crazy. read it once they want it again. same words same ending same everything. think they're being lazy. but they're not listening for entertainment they're listening for proof. testing if the world has rules that stick. if good still wins if bad still loses if love still saves the day. every repeat is them checking if reality is stable or if everything changes when nobody's watching. adults read thinking we're giving them stories. kids listen knowing they're downloading the operating system for life. they need to hear it fifty times to believe it once. that the universe doesn't lie. that patterns hold. that some things stay true even when everything else breaks. we get bored because we already know how it ends. they keep listening because they need to know it will always end the same way. this is how trust gets built. one repeated story at a time

build something with your hands that serves no purpose except beauty. the world has enough utility. what it lacks is proof that humans once cared about more than survival. your useless creation is a prayer against the coming dark

Software engineers are eating the world. We need new (or old) conceptions of power, nobility and virtue for this changing world.
I always enjoy @Meaningness blogs, mostly because of how intuitively he writes about these kind of meta-themes which people find very uncomfortable.
