Smartphones are addictive and leads people to be asocial. This increased asociality should eventually result in lower fertility rates given that being social is generally required to form relationships. Researchers used the inequal roll-out of the first iPhone in the USA to see if this prediction held up. It did. It appears that areas that got earlier access to iPhones (limited to AT&T network distribution) declined in fertility sooner.
