I've just notice the #mansplaining energy when the thumbnail here autoplays with sound off. So glad I had a man there to explain to me with the aid of overt gesticulation and mock patience where and when I should breastfeed my child 🙃
Here is one of the videos I took. It wouldn't upload before while I was at the show buy I'd shared it on a #breastfeeding peer support group for doctors on FB which was what was referenced

This is the most simple explanation of why everyone is feeling very tired after two years of this. (From @diamondgzrblog who is committed to old-school blogging and therefore always great.)

Read this extraordinary interview Desmond Tutu gave to Gyles Brandreth imagining a conversation with God after death. I have always loved this part embracing human imperfections: ‘I create only masterpieces’. RIP Archbishop Tutu, truly a masterpiece himself

The patience & decency @DavidLammy shows in his response to the woman saying he can never be English is incredible. I don’t know how he did it & he certainly shouldn’t have to

There’s the proverb that it takes a village to raise a child. In the pandemic, there’s been no village; just parents struggling on their own. Some new mothers have had to do that after traumatic births and with restrictions on how much support partners could give them in hospital

To the men asking what you can do: it’s not enough to cross to the other side of the street to avoid being a threatening presence. We also need you to do the harder stuff.

Slogans on children’s clothes, highlighted by campaigners/research from @fawcettsociety @volewriter @letclothesbe @notonlypinkblue @SonshineMag & others, show that boys are being taught to be scary predators; girls to be decorative prey. fawcettsociety.org.uk/unlimi… 5/

Look at this word cloud created from our research on TV toy adverts aimed at or featuring boys. Boys are being told to fight, to be in control, to be powerful. In the ads, boys were shown as active and aggressive, and not one advert for baby or fashion dolls included a boy. 3/

Gender stereotypes in childhood underpin a culture of sexism in which male violence, and violence against women and girls is widespread. What do those gender stereotypes teach children about how to be a boy or a girl? #VAWG 1/

NEW: we’ve all seen the pandemic’s impact on death rates, but what of the other end of the spectrum: birth rates?
It takes longer for births to show up in the data (duh), but 9 months on from last March, the results are in, and they’re quite something...

It's this, but it's also a whole spectrum of everyday sexism that builds a culture in which it happens. It's an arm round the waist as you push past in a bar; it's "smile love, it might never happen"; it's little princess; it's creating services based on default male experiences

The next person who says "you can live without a summer holiday for a year" automatically has their family moved to another country and are told they can't see them for a year, sorry, that's the rules.

With a major incident declared in London due to the pandemic reaching almost uncontrollable levels, boroughs are reluctantly speaking to faith leaders to ask that they consider voluntarily closing communal worship spaces.
