Letโs call them Trader A and Trader B.
Both had their eyes on the same opportunity. BTC was looking bearish, and they were both convinced a short position was the move.
They opened their positions, but little did they know that the real difference wouldnโt be their market prediction. It would be the margin engine working behind their trades.

Trader A opens a large short position. His platform assesses his margin requirements based on his position exposure. As the market moves against him, his available margin gets tighter. His liquidation threshold gets closer, leaving him with less room to absorb additional volatility. One unexpected move could put his entire position at risk.
๐๐ง๐๐๐๐ง ๐ฝ:
Trader B takes a similar directionally short position, but heโs trading on BULK. Hereโs where things get interesting.
BULK doesnโt simply look at individual positions in isolation. Its margin engine assesses the portfolio as a whole. Even without a hedge, Trader B benefits from an 18% margin discount.
For illustration, letโs say his account has $120k in balance against $600k in notional exposure. Thatโs an effective account leverage of 5x.
And thatโs not all. Heโs also got approximately another 2% of adverse price movement before reaching a liquidation event.
If liquidation becomes necessary, ๐ฝ๐๐๐โ๐จ partial liquidation mechanism reduces exposure instead of immediately wiping out the entire position.
Now, hereโs the interesting part.
Trader B doesnโt need to be hedged to benefit from ๐ฝ๐๐๐โ๐จ margin efficiency.
He gets:
โ More margin to work with.
โ More room to withstand market volatility.
โ A more efficient way of managing position exposure.
Same market direction. Same trading idea. But a very different approach to margin management.
Thatโs the BULK margin engine at work.
Sometimes, itโs not just about the trade you take. Itโs about the margin engine working behind your trade.

Most folks believe you need to be hedged to benefit from BULK's margin engine. This is not true!
This user is 100% directionally short and they are picking up an 18% margin discount, while being protected by a further ~2% movement in price to trigger a liquidation event (important to note here with BULK's partial haircuts, this would not trigger a full liquidation like it would elsewhere).
This is because although the positions look highly leveraged, BULK assesses your portfolio in its entirety. The balance here is $195k vs a notional size of ~$800k which puts the account leverage at 4.11x
