The beginning
47 years ago, I remember driving my cousin @prince to the Capri Theater and afterward, we drove home together. Long before Grand Central was formed, our musical journey began at his mother’s house on 8th and Upton, where we first started playing music together. As cousins, we would go back and forth from his house to mine on 9th and Sheridan. The upstairs den in my house had mirrors on the closet doors. The best part was that we could angle the doors to watch our performances as we played. Andre then joined us in junior high and we became a three-piece. We moved to Andre’s basement after my father who worked for the City of Minneapolis received a call at his job site. The police had been called because the music we were playing attracted so many kids outside my house. Fast-forward to 1984, when I sat down with @StevenIvory for a book he was writing. Steven needed more information about our family, growing up together, our musical influences and how the band was formed. Ivory wrote, “Prince on guitar, and Andre, on bass, were playing together in a band called Grand Central, which had been formed by Prince’s cousin, Charles Smith, who played drums. Andre, Prince and his cousin Charles could now spend as much time as they wanted making music. Bernadette was fairly permissive with the fellas. As long as they went to school, got good grades and stayed out of trouble, they could do whatever they wanted.” These are some of the memories of how it all began... long before the world knew the name Prince. There was family, friendship, music, and a dream that started right in our neighborhood. #Grandcentral #Prince #Justice4cuz #Andrecymone #Williamdoughty #Andreaswensson #Capri100 #Northminneapolis #Northside

The lesson repeats as needed. Episode 16507
The vast majority of men don't wear tailored clothing often enough to warrant a large wardrobe. Thus, if you're interested in tailored clothing, the easiest way to avoid looking bad is to stick to very simple things: — One "serious" suit in navy, mid-gray, or dark gray worsted wool. This should be single-breasted with notch lapels. You can wear this to weddings, funerals, religious events, and such. — One solid-colored navy sport coat made from navy wool, likely hopsack or an open weave such as Mock Leno. This should again be single-breasted with notch lapels. This is the most versatile sport coat. It's the sort of thing you wear on Mother's Day. — One or two other sport coats, likely mid- to dark brown. Make these from seasonal fabrics suited to your climate: wool-silk-linen if you live in a warm climate; tweed if you live in a colder climate. The fabrics can be patterned, but ask yourself when shopping — is this pattern something that a used car dealer or ESPN host would wear? If so, do not buy the jacket. These again should be single-breasted with notch lapels. Wear this when you want tailoring, but a suit looks out of place. — One semi-spread collar dress shirt made from a smooth white cotton fabric, such as poplin or broadcloth. Avoid cutaway collars; they are gauche. — A small stack of light-blue dress shirts — some solid-blue, some blue-white striped. If you're American and have any sense of pride in your country, get Oxford cloth button-downs where the collar points are long enough to give a full roll. If you're not American, or if you're a traitor to the United States, they can be semi-spread collars cut from smooth, pure cotton, such as broadcloth. Although I think end-on-end lends a bit of visual interest. — A matte silk rep striped tie that's not too visually busy. Get this in a basic, sober color like navy, brown, or forest green. Always tie this with a four-in-hand. Never wear a full Windsor knot or anything too complicated (those weird knots that get lots of upvotes on Reddit). — Trousers made in a classic cut (high-rise, not too slim). These should be light gray, mid gray, or tan, and then cut from seasonal materials that make sense for your climate — tropical wool for warmer seasons; wool flannel, cavalry twill, or whipcord for cooler seasons. You can get them with flat fronts or a single reverse pleat. Do not ask "are pleats stylish?" In fact, stop asking how to look stylish, young, or fashionable altogether. — Two pairs of Goodyear-welted, full-grain leather dress shoes in mid or dark brown. These can be derbies or penny loafers, since you'll likely wear sport coats, not suits. (Do not wear oxford shoes with sport coats). Never touch tan leather shoes. Or any dress shoes with a sneaker bottom. — A leather dress belt that's about 1.25" wide. The color should be close to the color of your shoes — dark brown with dark brown, mid-brown with mid-brown. — Solid navy over-the-calf dress socks. These can be thin cotton if you live in a warm climate. Otherwise, choose thin wool. Do not try to get creative. Even sticking with this formula will be creative enough, as no one knows how to wear tailored clothing anymore. Thus, you will look elegant in a sea of bad made-to-measure tailoring, Italian checked fabrics, skinny pants, tan dress shoes, black dress shirts, ugly ties, and the like.

On this day: The final night: September 21. Prince emerged from beneath the stage amidst smoke at exactly 8:30 PM, wearing a white suit. He opened with a fast-paced medley of "I Feel for You" and "Controversy" (featuring the "Housequake" chant) before moving into "Cream." He joked that he had "more songs than the number 21 on my back." The audience waved glow sticks. He performed tracks including "Le Freak" (Chic), "A Love Bizarre" (Sheila E.), and "Pass the Peas" (The J.B.’s). A reconstruction of the setlist (compiled from contemporary reports) includes: • I Feel for You / Controversy • Somewhere Here on Earth • Cream • U Got the Look • Musicology • Chelsea Rodgers • Sexy Dancer / Le Freak • A Love Bizarre • Pass the Peas • Diamonds and Pearls • The Beautiful Ones • Little Red Corvette • I Would Die 4 U • Under the Cherry Moon (instrumental) • Sometimes It Snows in April • Purple Rain (with glow sticks) • Take Me with U • Guitar • Kiss • Let’s Go Crazy • 1999 • Nothing Compares 2 U • Sign o’ the Times • When Doves Cry • Darling Nikki (partial) • I Wanna Be Your Lover • Alphabet St. • Delirious • When You Were Mine • Girls & Boys After an initial encore that included "Nothing Compares 2 U" and "Raspberry Beret," Prince asked the dancing crowd if they needed to catch a train. He kept playing as long as the audience stayed. A second encore featuring "Girls & Boys" concluded the main show after more than two hours. Afterwards, the event continued at IndigO2. The aftershow began around 1:35 AM. Amy Winehouse sang her own "Love Is a Losing Game" with Prince, while Beverley Knight performed "Rock Steady." Also included were tracks such as Come Together, Honky Tonk Women, Whole Lotta Love (instrumental), All the Critics Love U in London, Misty Blue, Baby Love, Alphabet St., Play That Funky Music, and The Question of U / The One. Parts of those aftershows later appeared on the album Indigo Nights. @prince @TheO2

This is the exact moment Wendy Melvoin said it was "over" for The Revolution. His guitars did not appear to be tuned correctly, and he smashed them. Everyone was devastated when Prince disbanded The Revolution. It was the closing of a chapter in Prince's life.

Highschool years
I wonder what ever happened to this dude? They said bro had a quick first step and decent handles. Heard he also dabbled in music. Does anybody know what he did after high school?

Imagine growing up in absolute dirt poverty in east Tennessee, daughter of a tobacco farmer, going to school wearing rags your mother stitched into a coat, and when you die the British royal family has its military band play your up-the-workers country-pop anthem in tribute.
Remembering the late, great Dolly, who brought joy, comfort and inspiration to so many - including the millions of children given free books through her Imagination Library. We will always ❤️ you.
