We now have a statement from @ahrefs regarding Google poisoning the search results and the overall tracking issues they are facing. I followed up with ahrefs to see if graphs will change, and be corrected, based on the cleanup they mentioned in the post. Stay tuned. "We already have multiple filters in place to detect and reject the abnormal results and request accurate replacements. We're also cleaning up any past results that may have been affected." ahrefs.com/blog/serp-data-up…

My ideal AI SEO tool isn't a prompt tracker. Instead, it: 1) Tests exactly what AI gets right + wrong about a company's brand facts 2) Measures overall AI recommendation rates for each company/competitor 3) Importantly, crawls and analyzes all pages to recommend specific content changes So I built *exactly* that tool with @letaidocom as an #ahrefspartner, using data from Brand Radar to generate client action plans • Tracks what AI knows about the company, services, and brand facts • Measures how often AI mentions the company 📈 or competitors 📉 for every service • Analyzes WHY competitors get recommended • Finally, identifies specific information gaps, weak on-page evidence, and pages to target We can share this report with clients/stakeholders/content managers so they understand exactly what's really driving their AI answers - people *really* start to understand when you show them this. Previously, I could get much of this data in @ahrefs Brand Radar, but turning that data into specific fixes required more manual work I've REALLY enjoyed building these tools (Full prompt in thread so you can build this yourself)

Google announced that AI Overviews and AI Mode are going to do more when it comes to linking out to websites. 1. More inline links in AI answers. Plus they will be shown higher up in responses more frequently. 2. Displaying official websites up high in AI answers if they are the place where people usually go to complete a specific tasks. 3. New prominent carousels for timely news articles that will appear within the AI answers. These will highlight your Preferred Sources. 4. More links to websites at the end of AI answers, along with image thumbnails and a more clickable design. 5. Clickable creator and publisher names on video results that take you to their Search Profile. blog.google/products-and-pla…

Incredible: Not only is Google working to block AI crawlers, but @nozzleio uncovered evidence that Google is deliberately serving FAKE search results to scrapers The "poisoned" search results look real, but w/ garbage data. This influences AI crawlers, scrapers, & rank trackers.

SEO Testing: When you encourage users to select your website as a "Preferred Source" in Google, the difference they see in search results can be significant - especially for searches you already rank for

Google's advice on "main content" is not new. Here are some excerpts from the Quality Raters Guidelines. The most interesting part is what they say about "filler" content: "The main content (MC) of a page should support its purpose. so that visitors can immediately access it. A high quality page has the most helpful MC placed most prominently. Content that supports the page purpose without directly contributing to the primary goal can be included, but it should be shown lower on the page in a less prominent position." In other words: Make it easy for the searcher to find what they are looking for. Now why did they add this to the helpful content guidance now? It could be to help site owners improve after being impacted by past updates. Or perhaps it is a warning for an update that is about to happen? 🤔

FYI: When I opted this website out of Google's AI search features, AI impressions dropped *instantly* Seemingly in minutes But after opting back in, AI visibility is taking MUCH LONGER to return. (will keep you posted)

Wowsers, SEO peeps. Google made a bunch of new updates to its "Creating helpful, reliable, people-first content" document, and they are *significant* Marie Haynes spotted this section targeting websites that create fake authors 🧐 "Fabricating creator profiles (such as by using AI-generated headshots, made-up names, or false credentials to make content appear as if it was written by human experts) is a form of deception. Any form of deception makes a page untrustworthy to both users and our automated quality systems, and is a signal of a low-quality page." Other important updates: 1. An entire section on Effort, Originality, Talent or Skill, and Accuracy - we posted about "Effort" as a ranking consideration a few weeks ago 2. A section on "How (the content was created)" - Google seemingly wants you to disclose when AI automation is used. 3. There's an entire section defining "Main Content", although this doesn't seem like entirely new info Regardless, the whole thing is worth reading, including Marie's analysis. All links down below 🔗

Since LLMs construct multiple fan-out queries and use search engines to conduct these searches simultaneously, doesn’t that kind of imply that SEO is actually *more* important than it was before? 🤔 (Better coverage = better visibility)

✅ You can now see the full Fetch & Render in Google Search Console. I built a free bookmarklet that rebuilds the whole page from the HTML Google rendered, right in the Screenshot tab of URL Inspection. 👇 1/6

👀 Are you an ecommerce seeing important YOY drops in organic search traffic from your top performing non-branded queries/topics even if you haven't actually decreased in real positions? It's not you, it's Google! Just compare the SERPs from September 2025 vs the ones of 2026, and you'll see an insane increase of: * AI Overviews * Shopping packs (two or three times in many cases) * People Also Ask * Local Packs ... and that's not even going into more visibility to ads across many verticals! In the first page of the SERP: * A year ago we still had 7-8 organic search ranked pages vs 1-2 search features * Now it's 4-5 organic search ranked pages vs 4-5 search features. It's all about keeping engagement within the SERPs. Welcome to Google's featurization era 😐 and say goobye to your traffic!
