Interesting to see one of the arguments against the triple now being the wasters in the defence forces “want to” go abroad to get overtime or whatever.
Scandalous headline when the man fell out of a van
A garda suffered a serious head injury and is in intensive care after he was injured while policing a match in Dublin last night.

"Wes you fool! You've commissioned a real review by mistake!"
So this morning, we ask if there’s a complication with welfare review. The PM has written a very watery non-committal piece about NEETS. The Milburn review is next month.
But have they just received an inconveniently timed new intervention - the Fonagy review. We discuss this on today’s podcast
*What is Fonagy*? After then Health Secretary Wes Streeting said in March 2025, that “mental wellbeing, illness, it’s a spectrum and I think definitely there’s an overdiagnosis”, he commissioned Professor Peter Fonagy to look at this and feed into the Milburn report. It was published earlier this month
*What does it say*? Fonagy appears to challenge the main point of Milburn. His report says: “Low participation should not be interpreted as lack of ability, motivation or aspiration. Work is not invariably beneficial, and an early return is not always appropriate.”
He also says “secure, well-designed and supported work can promote recovery, while insecure or unsupported work can worsen mental health”
The review rejects the "snowflake generation" narrative, finding a genuine, steep increase in mental ill-health (such as anxiety, depression, self-harm, and eating disorders) over the last three decades, particularly among young people aged 16 to 24.
And on ADHD and Autism, found “On the basis of evidence available to us we cannot conclude that overdiagnosis is occurring at scale”.
*Why a complication*? Milburn is likely to recommend that - apart from those with severe and enduring disabilities - all financial support for young people should have work and training support and requirements attached. Arguing that work per-se is automatically good, as Milburn seems to, is now challenged by Fonagy. And where drawing the line on “severe and enduring disabilities” is more complicated.

What? So if you express support for Palestine Action and are the wife of Andy Burnham’s national security adviser Jonathan Powell, you get a free pass from the police? But if you’re a retired teacher, you get 27 hours in custody and your home turned over by the police?
No further action to be taken against the wife of the Prime Minister’s national security adviser for support of Palestine Action
3,800+ arrests of people peacefully holding signs, and 36 counter-terror home raids for social media posts have taken place.

I hesitate to put a coin in this motormouth but it's staggering that someone who seems to spend most of his time on here imperiously accusing other people of bigotry and antisemitism would happily post this.

Interesting that the man in question here had a spell at the start of the year on Irish radio and in Irish newspapers as an expert about Irish neutrality and why it's wrong

Interesting that this gentleman, who has declared himself an "accidental landlord" not so long ago, has grown his property portfolio to six addresses, hosts a podcast about his plans to retire at 42, and still wishes to project to the world that he's broke.
"You might be lucky to have a few hundred euro left over by the time everything is accounted for. And that's the best case scenario".
Irish Independent columnist Michael Houghton tells Claire Byrne that being a landlord in Ireland isn't as lucrative as it's made out to be, and that €10,000 can be spent each time a tenant moves out.

I read of the death of journalist Annette Witheridge, aged 66, with very mixed emotions.
Much has been written about her distinguished Fleet Street career, particularly her role in securing the now infamous photograph of Prince Andrew & Jeffrey Epstein in Central Park.
But my memories of Annette Witheridge are rather different.
In 1987, she published a front-page story falsely claiming that I was dying of AIDS, then widely & cruelly described in the press as the “killer disease” or the “gay plague”.
It was untrue. I maintain that she knew it was untrue, yet no correction followed.
The consequences of such reporting were devastating, not only for me but for my family including my mother and my brother. At a time when ignorance, fear & prejudice surrounding AIDS were rife, such allegations carried an especially vicious stigma.
In 1988, I had the opportunity to confront Annette Witheridge face to face on Channel 4’s live discussion programme After Dark.
I took the original newspaper cutting from my pocket & challenged her directly about the story, the absence of verification & the damage it had caused. It was an extraordinary confrontation, broadcast live and unedited.
Nearly four decades later, I have not forgotten it.
I do not dispute that she enjoyed considerable professional success, nor do I begrudge those who knew & loved her their warm memories.
But journalism must be judged not just by the scoops it produces or the powerful people it exposes. It must also be judged by its accuracy, integrity & the consequences for those whose lives become its subject.
As tributes are paid to her career, I believe it is right that this chapter of her journalistic history should not be forgotten.
Her death is a sadness for her family & friends, to whom I extend my condolences. But death does not erase history, nor should it prevent an honest examination of the conduct of those whose work had such profound consequences for others.
The truth matters, as it did in 1987 & as it matters just as much today.
I’d rather watch 4 movies from the points of view of Kelly Clarkson, the shop owners, the artist, and Molly the singing bird
The Beatles biopics producer explains the idea behind releasing all four movies at once in 2028:
"We want people to be able to experience them in the cinema during the same period. Now that doesn't necessarily mean we're thinking that people will go and see all four films on the same day, but you know within the same month you might see one a week, or you might see one one weekend to the next, one the next. However you you see it, I think our hope is that people will see all four films.
You know they they stand alone as individual stories of each of those four men, but they they have a cumulative power, which I think is is greater than the sum of the parts. You know, the Beatles are simply the I think the greatest band in in history, and you know we're trying trying to do our best to do them justice, so hence the four films. I don't think there's probably another band that you could legitimately say you wanted to see four films for."

lol at this tale which makes little sense, why did he give up driving to the serious incident if the car needed to be towed later anyway?
A garda rushing to a serious incident was forced to thumb a lift because his electric patrol car ran out of charge because there is no charger at his garda station, an Oireachtas committee has heard.
