About that POTENTIAL Snow Next Week: Fri Nov 13 to Sat Nov 14 ❄️ The AI model has been grabbing the snow headlines, but it's only 1 of 3 Euro versions on display here: 💻 The operational model is the one meteorologists usually show. 🤖 The AIFS is the most aggressive single run 🤖💻 The AI Ensemble average is tamer 🏙️ For the metro, rain ending as snow showers is more likely than accumulation 🏔️ A few inches are “reasonable” in the mountains and up north. #FITF #snow

Arizona is one of only two states that don’t observe Daylight Saving Time (DST). The Navajo Nation, which exists mostly inside Arizona, does observe DST. The Hopi Reservation, which exists entirely inside the Navajo Nation, does not observe DST.

Here’s a story for you. We started filming without owning the title and had to do alternates. Taft Broadcasting owned the title Ghostbusters as part of their half-hour sitcom starring Larry Storch and Forrest Tucker (F-Troop) and a gorilla chasing ghosts. I had never heard of it. They didn’t have proton packs or Bill Murray. Columbia paid $500,000 to buy the name, but they really should have paid Dean Martin, from whom I first heard the term. In the film Scared Stiff (1953), he and Jerry Lewis (check out his acrobatic stair descent) are in an old haunted castle, and Lizabeth Scott asks Dean: “Who are you guys?” And Dean answers: “You’ve heard of Trustbusters and Gangbusters, we’re Ghostbusters!” For my research writing the first movie, I watched every single ‘ghost’ comedy ever made. Bowery Boys, Hope and Crosby, Abbot and Costello, Martin and Lewis all did such films. Happy Halloween 2026.

If the world is getting a little too much may I recommend the inexplicably obsolete word ‘latibulating’, from the 17th century? To latibulate is to find a cosy corner somewhere and hide in it.

The White House Correspondents' Association strongly objects to the decision to restrict a journalist’s coverage simply because the president didn’t care for their questioning. That is retaliation. The American public's right to an independent press depends on reporters being able to do their jobs without fear that challenging the president will cut off their access. - Jacqui Heinrich, WHCA President

I've been asking the new "damn good" America.gov AI chatbot Trump launched today whether various Trump lies are true. It keeps correctly explaining that they are not. (It's less informative and more hesitant even about official data than many other chatbots, so I would not recommend for fact-check purposes, but nonetheless.)

Last night @SecKennedy defended the President’s claim that children receive vaccinations the size of a soda bottle. His explanation was that the President meant the cumulative volume of the whole schedule when he said he’d seen vaccinations “the size of a soda bottle being poured into a child.” OK, then let’s do the whole schedule. A vaccine dose is 0.5 milliliters. One tenth of a teaspoon. Every parent who has taken their kid in for shots has seen the syringe. It’s not a soda bottle. That’s absurd. The biggest visit of a child’s life is the 2-month visit. Five injections, about 2.5 milliliters, half a teaspoon. Everything a baby receives by injection in the first 6 months of life adds up to roughly 2 teaspoons. The whole schedule, birth through age 18, every recommended vaccine, including a flu shot every single year, comes to roughly 55 injections and under 30 milliliters. A shot glass holds 44. Eighteen years of childhood vaccines do not fill a shot glass. A 20-ounce soda bottle holds 590 milliliters. That is more than 20 times the entire schedule, more than 200 times the biggest visit, and more than 1,000 times an actual dose. No version of this claim comes anywhere near a soda bottle. An executive order was signed anyway. @SecKennedy also repeated that childhood vaccines were never tested in placebo-controlled trials. My colleagues and I have systematically reviewed every randomized trial of childhood vaccines back to 1940. Nearly all were placebo-controlled, every vaccine on the schedule was evaluated in at least one placebo-controlled trial, and close to half used plain saline or the equivalent. The mumps vaccine inside the MMR was proven against placebo in the 1960s. The first hepatitis B vaccine was proven in a randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial published in the New England Journal of Medicine in 1980. The 1954 polio trial randomized roughly 600,000 children to vaccine or placebo, still the largest medical experiment ever conducted. So here is where we are. The President described something that does not exist and could not exist, a soda bottle of vaccine poured into a child, the same instinct as suggesting people inject disinfectant. And when the Secretary of Health and Human Services was asked a simple yes-or-no question about whether it was accurate, he couldn’t say no. He defended it. The nation’s top health official either doesn’t know what a vaccine dose looks like or won’t say so, and I honestly don’t know which is worse. Nobody around this president will correct him, even about a syringe, even with children’s health on the line. So the fantasy stands, the executive order stands, and parents are left frightened of something that was never real, in the middle of the worst measles year since 1991, with over 2,500 cases and counting. The arithmetic takes five minutes. The fear takes five seconds. That’s the whole strategy.
Michaelson: In terms of that idea of it’s the size of a soda bottle. I mean, that's not accurate. Right? RFK JR: What you should be concerned with is the fact that none of these vaccines have been tested in placebo controlled trials. (This is a claim that he has made across multiple interviews and has been fact checked before. After this segment ended, CNN brought on an infectious disease doctor who said this claim is false)

The French word for 'left' is ‘gauche.’ In English, ‘gauche’ means “lacking social grace.” It may have come about because left-handed people could appear awkward when trying to navigate a mostly right-handed world. Rude.
Today is International Lefthanders Day.

Not to be THAT dictionary, but… It’s ‘per se,’ not ‘per say.’ It’s ‘dog-eat-dog world,’ not ‘doggy-dog world.’ It’s ‘hunger pangs,’ not ‘hunger pains.’ It’s ‘one and the same,’ not ‘one in the same.’ It's 'buck naked,' not 'butt naked.'

‘Booty’ and ‘butt’ are synonyms. ‘Call’ and ‘dial’ are synonyms. But, a ‘booty call’ and a ‘butt dial’ are VERY different things.

To mark his first year back in office, President Trump is at the White House podium repeating many of the false claims on my list of his top 25 lies of 2025 - rigged 2020 election, 600% reduction in prescription drug prices, $18 trillion in investment, Venezuela's emptied prisons - plus a bunch of others. You can find a breakdown here. More later. cnn.com/2025/12/27/politics/…
