An 11-year-old boy watched the movie Jaws. Then he helped clear the name of a dead man the US Navy had blamed for a terrible disaster.
In 1996, a boy named Hunter Scott was watching the film Jaws at his home in Florida.
One scene particularly fascinated him.
The shark hunter Quint recalled the sinking of the USS Indianapolis during the Second World War.
Hunter had never heard of the ship.
He asked his father whether the story was true.
It was.
On July 30, 1945, a Japanese submarine torpedoed the USS Indianapolis in the Pacific Ocean.
The American warship had just completed a secret mission delivering components for the atomic bomb that would devastate Hiroshima.
Within approximately 12 minutes, the ship sank.
Of the 1,196 men aboard, only 316 survived.
Hundreds had escaped the sinking, only to spend days floating in the ocean, suffering from dehydration, exposure, injuries and shark attacks.
Nobody had raised the alarm when the ship failed to arrive at its destination.
The survivors were discovered almost by accident.
And then came another tragedy.
The US Navy court-martialled the ship's captain, Charles McVay, accusing him of negligence for failing to steer a zigzag course to avoid enemy torpedoes.
Yet McVay had not been informed of important intelligence concerning Japanese submarines in the area. His request for an escort had been denied.
Even the Japanese submarine commander testified that zigzagging would not have changed how he fired his torpedoes.
Many survivors considered McVay a scapegoat.
He carried the burden of the disaster for the rest of his life.
In 1968, he died by suicide.
Almost three decades later, an 11-year-old boy decided to investigate what had happened.
Hunter began what was supposed to be an ordinary school history project.
He read books and military documents. He contacted survivors, asking them to describe the disaster and what they thought of their captain.
Eventually, he reached out to all 154 survivors still alive in 1996.
More than 80 responded.
Many were elderly. Some had rarely spoken about their experiences.
They told Hunter about the men they had watched die. About their captain. About the injustice they believed had been done.
The boy kept investigating.
He wrote to President Bill Clinton. He assembled documents. He challenged the official version of events.
His research attracted national attention and helped persuade members of Congress to take up the case.
In 2000, Congress passed legislation calling for McVay's exoneration.
In July 2001, the Secretary of the Navy ordered that the congressional declaration of McVay's innocence be placed in his official military record.
More than half a century after the sinking, the captain's name had finally been officially vindicated, although the original court-martial conviction was not formally overturned.
And the boy?
Hunter Scott eventually became a US Navy officer himself.
There is something profoundly moving about this story.
Hundreds of sailors survived a nightmare. For decades, they struggled to get their captain's name cleared.
Then an ordinary schoolboy watched a film, became curious and refused to stop asking questions.
Sometimes history changes because someone powerful makes a decision.
And sometimes it changes because a child refuses to accept that the adults have already established the truth.

JD Vance is trying to rewrite history and claim he opposed the Iran war from the start. Don't let him. It's total crap. He never spoke out against it, never used the power of the vice presidency to stop it, and never told the American people the truth about what's happening there.

There's a saying on American social media:
"Be the American that Japanese people think you are."
I'm Japanese. I've lived in Tokyo my whole life.
So let me tell you what we actually say about you, when you're not in the room.
"When someone falls down on the street, we pretend not to see. We're protecting their pride. Americans run straight at them. They don't care about the pride. They care about the knee." (Office worker, 38)
"An American will stop four lanes of traffic for a family of ducks. And then everyone in the cars claps for the ducks." (Taxi driver, 61)
"If you lend an American a pen, you will never see it again. If you need a kidney, they'll ask your blood type." (Nurse, 45)
"At kids' soccer games, they cheer when the other team's kid scores. The other team's parents look confused. Then they cheer too." (Youth soccer coach, 52, lived one year in Ohio)
"A man sneezed on a bus in Chicago. Eleven strangers said 'Bless you.' He said 'thank you' eleven times. Nobody on that bus thought this was strange." (University student, 21)
"At an airport in Texas, I watched a soldier try to pay for his lunch. The cashier said someone already had. He asked who. She said, 'Somebody who didn't want you to know.'" (Retired teacher, 70)
"American fathers cannot braid hair. But they will watch a video at midnight for an hour so their daughter's hair looks right on picture day." (Hair stylist, 33)
"I ran the Chicago Marathon once. Strangers stood in the cold for hours holding signs for people they will never meet. At mile 20, a man I'd never seen read the name off my bib and screamed it like he'd raised me." (Runner, 48)
"When Americans get lost, they ask a stranger. If the stranger is also lost, they become a team." (Tour guide, 39)
"They ask the waitress her name. And then they remember it." (Restaurant owner, 66)
And one more. From my father. He's 76. He doesn't say much about anything. This is the longest thing I have ever heard him say about another country.
"Every time something terrible happens in America, I watch the news, and I look for one thing.
The people running toward it.
There are always so many."
So, America.
You don't have to become the Americans we think you are.
We're not imagining you.
We're remembering you.

Tonight’s outcome isn’t about placing faith in Democrats or socialist principles; it’s about holding Republicans accountable for betraying their promises.
All Republicans had to do was:
1. put Americans First
2. not start another war
3. prosecute sex traffickers

Hamilton: He didn't just turn some things over to collections every once in a while. He had his personal lawyer file suit against 700 patients. There was a woman who he left part of the placenta in the womb and she had to go back and he removed that. Then he billed her again for the same procedure.
Every place I go, the doctors come up to me and say, this is not what we do as doctors. We don't sue 700 of our patients. I've never met a doctor who sued 700 patients.
But here's the thing that really gets me. He goes to Washington, DC, and he takes health care away from 60,000 Kansans… What’s going to happen with those people? Are they going to be sued or arrested?
