A brown Muslim is perfectly safe at a music festival. The same cannot be said for Whites at a Paris/Manchester musical festival though. Which is why we are not terribly keen on Muslims, Ms Shaikh, regardless of their tan. Murdering us in the name of Allah has consequences.
Dropped my son off at Reading Festival today, but not before having a conversation I desperately wish I didn't have to have with my child.
He's visibly Brown. He's Muslim. And in the current climate, that can carry risks I never want him to have to think about.
So I had to talk to him about being aware of his surroundings. About trusting his instincts. About what to do if someone targets him because of how he looks or what they assume about him.
I hate this.
I hate that while other parents are worrying about whether their kids have enough money, sunscreen and phone battery, I'm having to talk to mine about the possibility of being targeted because he is visibly Brown.
He should just be going to a festival and enjoying being young.

#pafc it鈥檚 one league game and we know from last season not to knee-jerk.
But I think Cleverley has been really let down. Again, it鈥檚 important to not catastrophise and go over the top because the owner has put so much time and money into the club but there are so many questions that need answers.
The fans forums are so poor. And so contradictory.
Previously when challenging the cost of the women鈥檚 team coming from season ticket money etc we were told cost was minimal. Now we鈥檙e told 500k loss. Both can鈥檛 be true.
We were told the Tolaj money went to keep Baidoo. What absolute rubbish. The bloke was on our wage bill whether we liked it or not. After that loan last year there was hardly a queue for him. So Baidoo was here whether Tolaj went or not.
We are told to be happy because James Brent鈥檚 league one side had a smaller squad. It also didn鈥檛 lose 拢11m but that wasn鈥檛 mentioned.
We are told the manager is happy with the squad size. Of course he isn鈥檛. He鈥檚 not an idiot. He鈥檚 being loyal like the club were loyal to him. But fans aren鈥檛 stupid. It insults our intelligence to present this squad as having enough depth to go the whole season.
Evans will be a good player for Argyle I am sure but we should be in the mix for a talisman not just a grafter.
The basis of a good squad is there. The support of the fans is unbelievable. Go get us someone like Wareham or that standard of player and get the belief going again.
Also side note - we can鈥檛 go on each year with our pre season being Bristol City and a charity tour of local teams. It doesn鈥檛 get us ready.
