One of my post-theatre reflections is that I worked at a few places where there was poor/problematic leadership - and either at that place or in their next job said bad leaders have been quietly moved on. Maybe the industry has been looking for the wrong things in its leaders?
Feels timely that everyone stepping away from Twitter has coincided with me stepping away from theatre. Something something toxic environments something something better off out of it.

If you’re in New York City tomorrow evening, I believe we still have some (free!) tickets available for the premiere of BOOMERS!
Come along! It’s gonna be great fun!
This fucking sucks. Laura poured so much into her show, including taking on the financial burden herself to hire the venue, and is now unsure if she’ll get the £15k in ticket sales she is owed. Fuck Summerhall, fuck the Fringe and fuck theatre for being an exploitative industry.
In @ObserverUK today. Thanks to those sharing & sending kind messages. I just need to get through until the court date & find energy to keep making noise if needs be, I know speaking out is scary especially when there is so much wealth & power. theguardian.com/uk-news/2024…
In a world where much artistic leadership has been diluted, done away with or is occupied by problematic/inauthentic people, we need the likes of @mrdavebyrne and leadership like this.

And a new PATTERN emerges:
theatre that delay appointing Artistic Directors and ‘experiment’ with vague artistic leadership structures seem to be getting into all sorts of issues.
You might think having actual ADs is something that’s been tested and really necessary….
Big up Stef O'Driscoll and all those working with her on MSND. All power to artists who stand by their principles and believe in the stories they're telling, and get in the bin to any who tries to slience those voices.

A thread that has nothing much to do with Spacey but concerns the people making this documentary.
A new two-part documentary lets Kevin Spacey accusers share their stories.
It also asks if the actor deserves the comeback he's attempting to make.

Such terribly sad news from friends in Cornwall. Kirsty was a kind and generous person who was a powerhouse when it came to supporting artists in Cornwall and the South West. Another warm, passionate and brilliant person gone too soon.
