The power of technology in self management- across a population.
And reduction of complications for a generation.
Once you accept less than the best?
You allow mediocrity.
And in what I do- there is no space for that.

I was delighted to be part of the opening keynote panel at the 2nd Patient Empowerment World Congress Europe in London today 💙
It’s a topic I’m always passionate about. Empowerment starts with community: people supporting people. Sharing experiences. Learning from each other. Feeling understood.
It was a privilege to share the panel with Sailaja Maganti, Kayuri Odedra, Hamda Munawar - expertly chaired by Sarah Contiero.
Together, we explored what it really takes to move from engagement to genuine partnership, recognising lived experience as lived expertise and creating opportunities for people to shape decisions, not just respond to them.
I naturally brought a #Type1Diabetes and @BT1DUK @BreakthroughT1D perspective, but many of the themes were universal. When people are connected, informed and given meaningful opportunities to influence change it can only lead to better outcomes and choice.
The message was clear: empowerment isn't about giving people a voice. People already have one - it's about creating the conditions for that voice to have influence.
Community has always been at the heart of empowerment for me. Information gives people knowledge, but community gives people confidence. It was brilliant to spend time with so many people committed to making sure lived experience doesn't just inform decisions, but helps shape them. 💙

Just landed home from Philadelphia feeling inspired, energised and so excited about the future of #Type1Diabetes 💙
Over the last few days, @coracle1, Rachael Chrisp and I from the @BT1DUK team have had the privilege of being part of @BreakthroughT1D's inaugural Clinical & Research Congress in beautiful Philadelphia.
This inaugural Congress brought together over 1,000 researchers, healthcare professionals, industry partners, advocates, funders and people living with #T1D from around the world - and it was such a powerful reminder of the strength of our global community.
I'm incredibly proud to be part of the global Breakthrough T1D family - there's something super powerful about being part of a global organisation united by a singular focus: improving lives with T1D while driving progress towards cures.
The science, innovation and passion has been inspiring: from early detection and disease-modifying therapies to advances in technology, AI, cell therapy and clinical care, there was such a sense of momentum throughout the Congress.
What always makes these events so special though is the people: seeing the global T1D community come together to share ideas, challenge thinking, learn from one another and build new connections is a powerful reminder of whats possible when expertise, lived experience and a shared sense of purpose come together.
It was fantastic to reconnect with familiar faces, make new connections and spend time with colleagues and partners from across the world 💙
We’ve arrived home filled with confidence in the progress being made and the vital role played by the international Breakthrough T1D family.
Thank you to everyone who made #CRC2026 such a brilliant experience. Roll on next year’s conference in beautiful Washington DC!

We start the new series on #Diabetes with - as ever- provocation
Is it time to focus and get some areas up to the highest standards or do we accept mediocrity or less across the board in diabetes care in the #NHS?
When no one feels bold enough to ask the question- I am always happy to.

What a way to kick off an exciting few days in beautiful Philadelphia 💙
Great to spend this morning at the “From Screening to Action: Building Your Clinical Playbook for Early Stage T1D” meeting, hosted by @BreakthroughT1D in partnership with Ask the Experts, with many more conversations and meetings ahead of Breakthrough T1D’s inaugural Clinical & Research Congress starting Friday.
The workshop was a great reminder that scientific progress in #Type1Diabetes is moving at pace. What’s exciting is seeing how advances in screening, research and innovation are creating new opportunities to identify #T1D earlier and support people and their loved ones sooner.
Over the next few days, we’ll be learning from global experts and innovators, exploring everything from early detection and disease-modifying therapies to technology, AI and the future of T1D care.
As always, what I’m most looking forward to is the opportunity to learn from and connect with people from right across the T1D community. We know that progress happens when researchers, healthcare professionals, advocates, funders, industry partners and people living with T1D come together around a shared goal. That’s the real power of community.
Excited to catch up with familiar faces, make new connections, and bring plenty of learning and inspiration back to support the UK T1D community. Let the congress begin! 💙 @BT1DUK

Time to step back a bit more into life.
Work needs to be the healer.
And I owe many in the #t1d community much for their love during present times of desperation.
Some of you will be aware of my decision to join @DiabetesUK in a voluntary capacity to be part of the journey of @triggersbroom17 @Beth_Baldwin and help stop any more fatalities due to undiagnosed #t1diabetes in the UK 🇬🇧
Now for all those beyond the shores of this island.
Am off to Philadelphia today for the 1st #T1D specific conference held by @BreakthroughT1D
It's also the time to mention that after much weighing up?
I have decided to extend my work in India 🇮🇳 till 2030.
A journey which started in 2023- has had huge strides made in improving #t1d in India- thanks to the local leadership & lived experience
But there's much else to be done- not to mention ensuring the lived experience voice of #t1d stays centre stage.
So..onwards.
To return something to the place that made me 🇮🇳 - while also giving back to the country that shaped me 🇬🇧
Thank you to all for the love & kindness…
I will try to honour that as best as I can x

Being part of the #T1D community is one of the most rewarding parts of what I do. For me community is about people: people supporting people. Sharing experiences. Learning from each other. Feeling understood. That’s something I see every day in the #Type1Diabetes community and it’s why I’m so passionate about ensuring lived experience helps shape the conversations around healthcare, research and support.
Looking forward to meeting and learning from others and exploring how we can turn patient partnership into something that genuinely happens in practice, creating real impact for the communities we serve.

Thinking about the best way to help your child manage their T1D in school?
A diagnosis may mean a little extra planning, but children and young people can still enjoy school life and take part in all the activities they wish.
We asked Manisha, for her top 3 tips for parents during this back to school season at our Breakthrough T1D Discovery Day in London. Not only is she a secondary school teacher and a mother, she's also connecting young people living with T1D with her diabetessquad account on Instagram. 💙

Not every day one gets mentioned in the same sentence as @Erling
And I will say this again.
It has been the greatest privilege of my life to help those living with an unremitting and unforgiving condition like #T1Diabetes
And I am grateful for the kindness & love many show to me - which has been incredibly helpful in present times
I am also very aware how much of a privilege it is to have such love-which is given very rarely by the community- and as always- very humbled at that.
Thank you x 💙

It's Hypo Awareness Week!
For people living with T1D, hypos - short for hypoglycemia - are an all too familiar part of daily life. They happen when a person's blood glucose levels drop too low, and can have a significant impact on a person’s day, leaving them feeling unwell, tired or anxious - yet they're often managed in silence.
This week is to help shine a light on the importance of recognising, preventing and managing hypos. 💙

Still smiling after yesterday's @BT1DUK UK London Discovery Day 💙 our biggest and most ambitious yet!
What always stays with me after events like this isn't just the incredible speakers, inspiring lived experiences, the latest updates on research and technology, or activities for every age group. It's also the people and the power of community.
For some people, yesterday was their first ever Breakthrough T1D event. For some, it may have been the first time they'd met another person or family affected by #T1D.
There's something incredibly special about bringing people together who understand the realities of life with #Type1Diabetes. The conversations, shared experiences and connections made throughout the day are what make events like these so impactful 🫶🏻
Yesterday, hundreds of people came together to learn, share, connect and support one another. That sense of belonging is exactly why Discovery Days matter - and why bringing the T1D community together will always be one of the most rewarding parts of what we do.
A huge thank you to everyone who attended, spoke, exhibited, partnered with us, volunteered and helped make the day so special. Events like this are only possible because of the incredible T1D community that shows up for one another time and time again.
And of course, huge thanks to our phenomenal staff and volunteer team. From the first welcome at registration to the final pack down, your energy, passion and commitment created an experience that made people feel informed, supported and, most importantly, part of our community. Special thanks to Bella Allchorne and Chris Bright too - delivering an event of this size and complexity is no small task - and they put on an absolute masterclass in event planning and coordination.
We’re incredibly thankful to the Bukhman Foundation for supporting our Community Engagement work 💙
