Higher education in this country is at risk on a scale we have never experienced before. The future of our young people is being put at risk and the potential of our economy is being jeopardised. It’s time to speak up and demand the investment needed in this jewel in the crown of our society. @ucu

Zionism is a white supremacist movement, white supremacy does settler-colonialism, settler-colonialism does genocide. Zionism is genocidal. It was designed that way.

🎥 “We want to go the Farage route, not the Lib Dem route.”
Ashok Kumar of Greens for Palestine spoke to Novara Media about strategy behind the Green Party’s “Zionism is racism” motion, which took a year to organize and was designed to expose Labour’s politics. He said PM Andy Burnham’s response revealed him as little different from Keir Starmer.
Inspired by Jean-Luc Mélenchon’s France Unbowed and its “strategy of conflict,” the idea is to set the terms of debate, provoke a backlash, and heighten contradictions to force opponents to reveal positions.
Rather than chase more MPs by moderating its politics, Kumar says the Greens should use confrontation to shift the debate leftward and become an anti-establishment force.
“We want to drag [the paradigm] to the left kicking and screaming.”

University of Brighton management has given notice to terminate its recognition agreement with UCU alongside collective agreements covering key terms and conditions.
This isn't just about Brighton. What happens here could have implications for branches across the UK.
Hear from Ryan at Brighton UCU on what's happening and why the branch needs our solidarity.

🧵It is incredibly bleak to be starting the new academic year with a five week strike to try to protect our jobs from £140m of cuts. It is terrible for our students too, and we wish we didn't have to take this action. The blame lays squarely with the senior management of the...

Brighton UCU Press Release - 17 September 2026 -
University of Brighton derecognises trade unions in unprecedented attack on staff bargaining rights @ucu @brightonhovetuc @UNISONinHE @TUC_LESE brightonucu.org.uk/
The University of Brighton is threatening to DERECOGNISE UCU and rip up collective agreements protecting staff.
This is an outrageous attack on trade union rights. We will not allow our members’ rights, pay and conditions to be torn up.
Today we’re taking to the streets of Brighton with a clear message to management.

Higher education is facing the biggest crisis in living memory.
Tens of thousands of UCU members have lost their jobs. Courses are closing across the UK. Staff are being outsourced onto lower pay, weaker pensions and inferior conditions.
The funding model is broken. Government intervention cannot wait.
***URGENT*** University of Brighton management have announced today that they ‘give notice of termination of all collective agreements’. This is a fundamental erasure of workers' rights. Management have announced the termination of all contractual documents, which includes:
Emergency Protest - Hands off our contracts - defend the campus unions at the University of Brighton - assemble Tuesday 15 September 1pm at Grand Parade main building, University of Brighton BN2 0YJ - speakers include @DrJoGrady @ucu #TUC26
As if that were not enough, they have also announced plans to close Falmer campus, our home of education, sport, health and the medical school.
