Lee Biscuits Malaysia, established in 1934, will close its factory in Pontian at the end of this month, China Press reports. The brand, whose products include Marie biscuits, lemon sandwich biscuits and iced gem biscuits, is currently in the process of laying off its employees. It is also said to be among the first manufacturers in Malaysia and Singapore to introduce spirulina wholemeal biscuits. 🧵1

The haze isn't just affecting us. Our pets are breathing the same polluted air too. Malaysian veterinarians Dr Wendy Cheng and Dr Randolf Paza have highlighted cases of cats suffering asthma attacks, birds struggling to breathe and pets requiring oxygen therapy. From coughing and watery eyes to more serious breathing difficulties, here are the warning signs pet owners should watch for and how to keep their furry friends safer during the haze. The ‘H’ might be derived from the Greek name of Jesus (ΙΗΣΟΥΣ). The first 3 letters are transliterated iota-eta-sigma, which can look like ‘ΙΗϹ’ or ‘JHC.’ ‘JHC’ was worn on clergy vestments.
Why do people say Jesus H Christ. What does it stand for. What is his middle name

I don't know why a lot of people are surprised that many Chinese Indonesians still speak their own variants of Chinese at home. Maybe it's a rare thing in Java, but in places like Bangka, Medan, Singkawang, Pontianak, etc., they still speak & teach their children to speak their languages. You can watch videos on the Internet if you don't believe me Problem is, when they go to places like Malaysia, Singapore or to PRC, some Mandarin speakers accuse them of being "disconnected" from their roots because they don't speak Mandarin (i.e. the Putonghua). This is what I was criticizing; Their ancestors who came to Indonesia did not speak Mandarin in the 1st place; They did not come from Mandarin-speaking regions, so it makes no sense to say that they're "disconnected from their roots" because they do not speak Mandarin?
Actually the majority of Chinese people who came to Indonesia didn't even come from Mandarin speaking regions in the north; They instead come from the southern regions like Fujian & Guangdong & the likes BEFORE the Republic of China was even formed, so EVEN when their descendants do not speak Mandarin, they're not actually "forgetting their roots" like some people claimed Their ancestors most likely spoke other branches of the Chinese language like Hokkian, Hakka, Teochew etc. A lot of Indonesian Chinese still speak those languages at home these days

Recent incidents involving teenagers have raised concerns not just in Malaysia, but around the world. In her opinion piece, Munira Mustaffa explores how harmful online communities may influence youth violence, and why these incidents deserve closer attention beyond bullying and criminal behaviour. But are we doing enough to recognise the warning signs before it's too late?

Indonesian <kelinci> 'rabbit' and <terwelu> 'hare' are both ultimately from this etymon (via Dutch <konijntje> and Portuguese <coelho>)
Some reflexes of Latin cunīculus "rabbit" (m.) 🐇🐇, in modern Romance languages.
