I am obsessed with Mexico City's messy urbanism, incredibly diverse architecture, and its embrace of all forms of density - which all contribute to the vibrancy and vitality of this city. Urban planners have lots of lessons to learn at all scales of development 🧵

Need a monument to all the kids and middle aged people who haven’t been able to build lives in Toronto because a house shaped envelope (and a bloated elevator code tied to America) is all that’s allowed on our small-lot residential streets. 🤷🏻♀️

I would bet that few, if any, of Ford's MPPs have used bike lanes in Toronto. They have no idea why they're so popular.
Getting rid of 19KM of bike lanes is a massive overreach and a decision that will be reversed when we have a government that actually has common sense.

This will do precisely zero -- zero -- for gridlock.

This is a bad day for Toronto.
The Ontario government is moving ahead with ripping out bike lanes that we want and already paid for.

Pure insanity. The worst leader in Ontario in a generation has done nothing on housing, has no vision for a better province, and is just focused on petty grievances. What a bankrupt person.

There was a real promise when Toronto's mayor got elected that we would get serious change and the better things Toronto deserves and it's hilarious because these ridiculous fences are the most John Tory thing I can ever imagine

Potential scrum question: “It took you a long time to agree with most Ontarians that Trump is terrible. What, from his first term, made you cheer for a second Trump term when most of your constituents feared chaos for America and its allies?”

Lol the system and this stretch specifically has been plagued by slow zones for years, slow zones get cleared and then reappear, but apparently a slow zone can be fixed in one night of work. Utterly embarrassing from @TTChelps. New leadership + vision and desperately needed
We've heard from #TTC customers over the last couple of days about the slow trips southbound on Line 1 north of Bloor due to recently discovered track deficiencies.
Last night, crews rearranged some planned work to make the necessary repairs and remove the speed restrictions in that area this morning.

It is remarkable the number of slow zones on line one even as the TTC has had more shutdowns in the last decade than probably the entire existence of the subway prior to that.

The funny thing when you get on a bike in Toronto and forget all the bullshit politics is that . . .
Its faster than the streetcars
Its faster than driving
Its *fun*
Its healthy (unless driven over by driver)
And many people are desperate for . . . *less* of this?!

Mike Layton is framing his bid to return to Toronto politics as an opportunity for a more progressive city council under Olivia Chow
What exactly would such a council do? What part of Chow's vision or agenda was blocked by the outgoing group of councillors?
Mayor Chow has been an objectively bad mayor, just like the two mayors before her. But I will vote for her over Bradford. It’s a sad state when the greatest city in Canada has to choose between bad and worse leadership. We deserve so much better than this.
Today the Court of Appeal confirmed what I said on Bloor Street W., in Etobicoke on Tuesday: where bike lanes go is a decision for elected governments, not for courtrooms.
For almost two years, the future of Toronto’s streets sat in legal limbo. Drivers sat in gridlock. Businesses on Bloor West watched their sales fall. The Mayor spent those two years cheering on a courtroom fight instead of fixing the street. That’s two years this city doesn’t get back.
Here’s what today’s decision doesn’t change: the best people to decide what happens on Toronto’s streets are still Torontonians. My message to Queen’s Park is simple. You’ve made your point. Now let the city do this job, with the communities who live on these streets, and work with Toronto’s next mayor instead of around him.
My commitment from Tuesday stands, and today removed the last excuse for delay. As Mayor, I’ll take the bike lanes on Bloor Street West, from South Kingsway to Resurrection Road, out in my first year and restore the vehicle lanes. And I’ll build cyclists something better than a painted line on an arterial road: a real network of trails in our ravines and hydro corridors, plowed in winter, and routes on quieter streets. That promise doesn’t depend on any courtroom, and it never did.
Mayor Chow should accept today’s decision, end the legal chapter for good, and sit down with the province on an orderly plan. If she won’t, voters can choose a mayor in October who will.
Slow zones are a massive issue, a huge stain on the TTC, and absolutely unacceptable. Hoping this really powerful dashboard shining a light on the problem finally gets the Mayor and the city to fix this. @TTChelps @MayorOliviaChow

The TTC has provided a table on "Reduced Speed Zones" on their website for the past few years. It just has a static map and is hard to interpret the real impact on riders. I have created a tool that pulls this data daily and will provide real info on how this delays riders.

It would be good for @AbdulElSayed if Francesca Hong loses her bid to become the Democratic nominee in Wisconsin next week.
He is a serious person. She is a font of zany liberal, faculty lounge exotica.
But the Rs, hoping to deflect attention from an unpopular @POTUS who hangs from them like an anchor, would surely try and link Abdul and Hong as philosophical kin.

I'm worried that he seems like an asshole. I'm worried that he's associated himself with extreme people, who have extreme views. I'm worried that he couldn't bring himself to condemn a terrorist attack on a Jewish daycare. And last but not least, I'm very worried that he will lose the general election.
But sure, no one could oppose him other than for your own disingenuous slop reasons.
