We previously showed that APS-1/APECED features excess IFNg responses that can be targeted therapeutically (Oikonomou NEJM 2024). We now extend this to show that early JAK inhibition can intercept the development of irreversible autoimmune endocrinopathies

So we blocked IFNγ in Mtb infected macaques and….the animals were fine. Turns out mice overestimate the importance of IFNγ in TB because IFNγ drives iNOS in mice but not macaques or humans. This means we don’t actually know how T cells suppress Mtb. rdcu.be/ff9GB
We still don’t understand how T cells control tuberculosis. Our new paper shows that Mtb-specific T cells in NHP and human lung granulomas make many interesting effector molecules upon TCR stimulation. There’s a whole lot more to T cells in TB than IFNγ!

We are looking to hire post-docs to work on T cell responses to M. tuberculosis infection using murine and NHP models. If you know T cells and wanna work on the top infectious killer check us out. The NIH intramural program is an amazing place!
We are looking for post-docs! If you are interested in T cell responses to M. tuberculosis infection check us out. The NIH Intramural program is a great place to train!

Happy to share authors.elsevier.com/sd/arti… @CellPress Immunity. CD4 T cells contribute to protection against #TB in a reinfection macaque model by interacting with CD8s to generate an anti-inflammatory granuloma environment. Kudos to first authors Sharie Ganchua and @joshuabromley21

Scientists at @NIAIDNews examined the roles of the prototypic pro- and anti-🌡️ #inflammatory cytokines IFNγ and IL-10 using the rhesus macaque model of mild #COVID19.
👇 Check out their discovery on the role of IFNγ in lung lesions.

We are looking for a technician to join our team working on immune responses to tuberculosis in NHP models. The NIH is a super fun place to do research. Have a look! guidehouse.wd1.myworkdayjobs…
Incredible study from @LionakisLab !!!
1/n Proud to share our latest work @NEJM. A long journey of integrated basic research and clinical care revealed a central role for IFN-g in driving mulitorgan autoimmunity in APECED and devised a personalized, life-transformative intervention for patients

Check out the new paper from Kat Mayer-Barber’s lab. Heterogeneity in outcomes of SARS-CoV-2 may be in part due to the recent pulmonary immune history of the host.
