FR107 is essential here, anything else unless it has the right ratings and more importantly speed will result in terrible efficiency. The primary coil also has to be just the right diameter and pure copper, NOT CCA.

Did you know: younglings have ninja-like reflexes. One grabbed a falling object in mid-air while I looked on in absolute astonishment.

Did read that one way to solve an 'unsolvable' problem is to view it as a completely different domain. eg Dantzig did so by inventing an entirely new branch of mathematics.

Hi Tweeps. I've run into an issue here, perhaps folks can advise? Too many projects. That and trying to write a scientific paper having never done so other than my 3rd year Uni project. Where to start ??

Not sure what was worse: treading on one or having to unbend the pins while embedded in a foot. 0/10 Would Not Recommend.

Seriously though, the number of scams in the last week has increased exponentially. Almost like someone released a workaround for a popular card's limiters.

Fairly horrifying, voice SCAM just now. It sounded like them, even answered questions. Only reason I caught it was that they couldn't answer questions that person would know the answers to. Evaded the question.

Every time someone buys one of these unholy abominations it just feeds the scammers. Who often manufacture them using modern slaves in actual sweat shops, and are then paid in crypto or gift cards so they can't be tracked, which are themselves often stolen.

Under 'There should be laws..' manufacturers of counterfeit batteries that not only use cheap controllers but don't even bother to hook up the push button charge meter properly so it either shows 1 solid 1 flashing or 5 solid. And claims to have 98.4% health instead of 84%.

Saw some clever electronics today. It splits the audio to two headphones from a single pair of wires. All done with diodes, capacitors and resistors.

What is interesting, these Amazon kits are inefficient. I added a 330pF capacitor across the resistor, and got a 34% boost in output voltage with no increase in current. At that point, it is well worth adding an overvoltage limiter because at 4.15V the secondary arced internally.

Best to use titanium or something that doesn't readily corrode.

Old hacker trick, get it all lined up and then drill three small holes right through both pieces. Install metal rods and use an induction heater to literally fuse them to the plastic. Not that different to the method used for repairing ceramics.

I've used a number of methods over the years. Don't bother with glue, it never holds long term. Better to use a solvent, and install something like a wood screw to hold the pieces together. Ugly but effective.

Not seen that happen before. Globe broke right at the base. That plastic is a good 8mm thick, cast polysomething. I can only guess at the sort of force it would require to break that. Maybe 3D print and backfill with some casting alloy so it doesn't happen again ?

<joke> I know someone who was once married to a topologist. They divorced and are now dating a nuclear physicist. An actual spin doctor ! </joke>

<joke> Went to the pub with my safety glasses on. I haven't seen this much side eye since that visit to the sheep farm!! </joke>;

Now here's an idea. Line follower using live wire detectors. For outdoor robotics. It 'Remembers' where all the mains cables in the road are, and forms a visual map of them. Ideal for locating power issues. (sells this to GE)
