OpenAI and Anthropic each say they refuted a 27-year-old computer science conjecture. Anthropic's paper says its algorithm only beats brute force on problems with more than 10^10,000 variables. The observable universe has about 10^80 atoms.

Zamzar turned 20 this week: two brothers, no venture money, 766 million file conversions. Trends from Web 2.0 to AI arrived and people kept needing their files converted. If you're bored with the business that pays you, check whether its customers still have the problem.

Anthropic's S-1 reports an $80.7B loss and a $2.7B adjusted profit for the same six months. The adjusted number leaves out $2.2B of stock pay. The loss is built on a $72.4B fair-value line that moves with the share price.
