There is nothing wrong with getting a job to feed your family.
Read that again. It's okay.
Real estate markets cycle. They go up, then they go down.
And sometimes, like now, they stay down and transactions are hard to come by.
I've had a ton of conversations with people lately contemplating taking a job.
I want to make sure it's clear - that is the responsible thing to do sometimes.
You aren't a failure. You didn't do something wrong. This is what can happen.
In late 2009, as the GFC wore on, I had to bail on my development job in San Francisco and move to Minneapolis, where the cost of living was 30% lower.
I took a low paying job at a non-profit tax credit developer. Felt like the world's bigger failure.
Lived in my mother-in-law's basement for a while to get back on sound financial footing.
I was 32 years old.
When the market cycles, you sometimes have to do what you have to do.
Hell, this keeps going much longer and I might be right back there again. We'll see!
Taking care of your family is the #1 most important thing. Do what you need to and don't let anyone tell you differently.
You'll be back!

@DavidBrooks224 & @JonHaidt say even the best-case AI makes us matter less to each other, unless we get "very different AI" and take back control. It's time to Take the Power Back.

When you follow a leader, consider what would lead you to withdraw your support.
If the answer is nothing, your integrity is in jeopardy. Your highest loyalty belongs to principles, not people.
No leader deserves unconditional love. Commitment is earned through character.
