wow static-typing!
Nextflow 26.10 is here! 🚀 Static typing is now stable, and a year of language work comes together to make your pipelines composable, reusable building blocks that you (or your AI agent) can verify before a single task runs.🧵hubs.la/Q04zzFlL0
ok, this was definitely not on my bingo card wtf...

IMHO, one of the biggest disadvantages American postdocs face (compared to international postdocs) is student loan debt. Sure, the minimum salary is the same for everyone, but not having to make hefty loan repayments every month makes a huge difference.
PrintCraft - 114 MB
Adobe Acrobat - 1.8GB
Crazy to think that we normalized downloading a 1.8 GB monster just to certificate-sign a pdf?
Someone used Opus 5.5 to rebuild 𝗔𝗱𝗼𝗯𝗲'𝘀 𝗯𝗶𝗴 𝗳𝗶𝘃𝗲 from scratch in Rust, and open-sourced all of them.
There's one for Photoshop, Lightroom, Premiere, Illustrator and Acrobat. PhotoCraft alone has layers, masks, adjustment layers and layer styles, and it opens and saves real PSD files.
It has 500+ commands, and the UI, the CLI and the MCP server all share them, so 𝗮𝗻𝘆𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗰𝗮𝗻 𝗰𝗹𝗶𝗰𝗸, 𝗮𝗻 𝗮𝗴𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗰𝗮𝗻 𝗱𝗼 𝘁𝗼𝗼.
Hook it into Claude Code or Codex with photocraft-cli mcp, and hand your agent a whole folder of images to color-grade, sharpen and export in one batch.
A week after going open source, PhotoCraft already has 𝟰,𝟱𝟬𝟬+ 𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗿𝘀, and Claude Opus 5.5 shows up as a co-author in its commits.

When I read that an internal OpenAI model solved the Navier-Stokes problem, I realized it would be very hard for us to know if that model possesses similar "millennium intelligence" in biology (even if it does!). "Curing disease" is a noble goal, but we cannot validate proposed treatments rapidly enough to use it as a frontline eval for new models.
Here, @SGRodriques and I propose Millennium Problems for Biology - meaningful, difficult challenges in biology whose solutions should be straightforward and quick to validate in a wetlab. If a model were to solve any of these, I would know that machine intelligence was capable of fundamentally reshaping humanity's ability to make, measure, and model biology.
Please see details of the problems in the thread below, and see our website for the permanent home of the list. I encourage the community to red-team these challenges to make sure they are adequately specified and difficult to cheat, and propose additional challenges to add. We will subsequently update the list in response to feedback.

So excited about Anthropic’s release of MHS. Read how Zihao Song got multiple devices in our lab talking to one another, including coordinating a plate dispense and handoff using a robotic arm.
A cathartic experience for anyone who has dealt with lab automation!
Today, we're kicking off the first phase of the research preview for Model Hardware Standard (MHS): a new standard for AI agents to safely operate physical equipment in scientific research and advanced manufacturing.

Honestly, a great victory for European unification. Unthinkable some years ago, a sizeable majority of European (right-wing) leaders claiming the border of a tiny Spanish exclave in Africa as their own border.
Together with the leaders of 🇱🇻 🇪🇪 🇮🇹 🇦🇹 🇨🇿 🇬🇷 🇵🇱 🇸🇰 🇸🇪 🇩🇰 🇧🇬 🇫🇮 🇭🇺 🇷🇴 🇸🇮 🇭🇷 🇲🇹 🇨🇾 🇳🇱 🇩🇪, I have addressed @eucopresident @vonderleyen and @MichealMartinTD on the situation at the EU's external border in Ceuta.
We are determined to prevent smugglers from challenging the integrity of our external borders. We cannot allow illegal entry, the instrumentalisation of migration or other hybrid threats to create the perception that illegal entry into the EU can turn into legal stay.
Europe must respond swiftly, effectively and in a coordinated manner. Protecting our external borders, preventing illegal migration and supporting Member States under pressure are our shared European responsibility.
(I) is just perfect 👌

I wanted to like QED's new 1% preprint ranking. But the more I looked at the data, the more uncomfortable it made me. Here is my full peer review:
