Two of the greatest legends in Rock History! They must have so many stories to shareโฆ
Yes please.
I spent much of the โ70s floundering career-wise. I recorded some terrific singles for Private Stock Records, When label head Larry Uttal signed me, I had high hopes for what we could accomplish together, but my recordings never received the promotion and support I felt they deserved.
I reunited with Lee Hazlewood in 1978, recording an albumโs worth of material. Unfortunately, without the support of a record label, the project never materialized. I was disappointed, but I was getting older and I was more focused on my family at that point, so it didnโt bother me as much.
In 1980, I signed with Elektra Records, releasing one single, โLetโs Keep It That Way,โ b/w โOne Jump Ahead of the Storm,โ and recording countless demos with Billy Strange as I tried to find something people would like. We recorded in a dingy little house studio in the Valley that the label owned. I can still see my kids running around that filthy place!
Then, in 1981, Jimmy Bowen, who was then vice president of Elektra/Asylum Nashville, came to the rescue again, putting Mel Tillis and me together. Jimmy knew what he was doing because the chemistry between us was immediate and electric. We had a fabulous time recording our album.
Mel & Nancy was released 45 years ago this week! Itโs one of the best records Iโve ever made, and a fan favorite. I hope someday it will be available again for everyone to hear. Itโs an album Iโm incredibly proud of, and Iโd love for it to have a second life. Mel and I had something special, and that music deserves to be heard.

Dolores Huerta was an indomitable force for justice for farm workers, immigrants, and those who are too often denied a voice in the decisions that impact their lives and livelihoods. She was a pioneer in the environmental justice movement, having seen the harm that extreme heat, pesticides, and other environmental threats have had on farm workers. Her courage to speak out against injustice must inspire us to use our voices to challenge inequity and wrongdoing. We must remember the spirit of her rallying cry, "ยกSรญ, se puede!" and draw inspiration from her persistence as well as her optimism as we navigate our own turbulent times. My heart goes out to her family, colleagues, and everyone feeling this loss deeply.

People are starting to tell me that I'm repeating tweets that I've posted before.
I don't know if it's the alcohol, the marijuana, the Valium, the Xanax or because of the drugs that I used to do.
But people are starting to tell me that I'm repeating tweets that I've posted before.
