Why won't retired officials of Assam Rifles also talk of the dubious history and role of Assam Rifles in Manipur. We have not forgotten the protest by Meitei Ima who had to disrobe to shame the State to follow the Constitution at least in pretense. The illegal killings in hundreds that happened. The rape, torture and killings. Journalism should stop treating these retired officials as some dispensers of the holy grain of truth.

This was not a "public road protest." This was a direct breach of a CRPF Camp perimeter. Under Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), once a security perimeter is breached and a Weapon Armory is threatened, the Rules of Engagement (ROE) shift from "Crowd Control" to "Area Defense.
Evidence shows hours of non-lethal restraint (tear gas/warning shots) were exhausted while the mob burned camp property and vehicles. When an armory—containing LMGs, mortars, and thousands of rounds—is targeted, lethal force is the final, mandated resort to prevent the looting of weapons that would kill thousands later.
Shots fired in such high-stress breaches are aimed at the primary aggressors leading the charge to storm the gates. Authorization is held by the on-site Incident Commander when "imminent loss of lethal assets" is at play.
The violation is the arson of a security camp during a national security crisis. Expecting forces to stand down while their base is torched and armory looted is a recipe for total anarchy.

The Kuki Students’ Organisation, Thangting Block (KSO-TTB), strongly condemns the tragic incident that occurred today at Tronglaobi, Bishnupur, which resulted in the loss of two innocent children. The gravity of this incident demands a thorough, impartial, and evidence-based investigation, rather than premature conclusions or politically motivated narratives.
In the absence of verified evidence, certain Meitei groups have hastily accused the Kuki community. KSO-TTB firmly rejects these baseless allegations, which were made even before any official inquiry had begun. Such irresponsible claims only mislead the public and further inflame tensions during an already sensitive period.
Following these unverified accusations, Meitei armed groups reportedly carried out an attack on P. Gelmol Village, thereby escalating the situation and putting the lives of Kuki civilians at risk. This reflects how unsubstantiated claims can be misused as justification for targeted violence.
KSO Thangting Block urges the concerned authorities to conduct a fair and comprehensive investigation into both the Tronglaobi incident and the attack on P. Gelmol. Holding an entire community responsible without credible evidence is unacceptable and must not be tolerated.
