BREAKING: MIT just completed the first brain scan study of ChatGPT users & the results are terrifying.
Turns out, AI isn't making us more productive. It's making us cognitively bankrupt.
Here's what 4 months of data revealed:
(hint: we've been measuring productivity all wrong)

New paper! How inclusive is volcanology? Here are new insights from a global bibliometric analysis by @Tyranakisaurus and colleagues!

Painfully true 😂
Haven't seen a better representation of what a Ph.D. is/should be.

Tropical Cyclone Gabrielle is intensifying in the Coral Sea...
This animation shows future track possibilities (🟡), many of which have a landfall in the North Island on Monday or Tuesday.
❗️ Should this occur, very heavy rain, damaging winds & dangerous seas would be expected.

Introducing VolcashDB (eartharxiv.org/repository/vi…) to an international audience was nerve-wracking but absolutely worth the experience!

How inclusive do you think volcanology is? In our new preprint, we tried one way of looking at it. We investigated how often locally affiliated authors are included in or lead research about volcanoes in their own countries. #volcano #inclusion
doi.org/10.31223/X5ZS9F

ALT Stacked horizontal bar graph showing how often locally affiliated authors are A. lead authors of research and B. included in research about volcanoes in their country. X-axis is percentage of articles including a local author, y-axis is countries with at least 50 articles published about volcanoes located there.

Here’s the context. Dozens of scientific fields have adopted the prediction paradigm, and that’s great. But ML performance evaluation is notoriously tricky. At least 20 reviews in 17 fields have found widespread errors, and the list is quickly growing. reproducible.cs.princeton.ed…
Super excited to share the main results of three years in my PhD at #COV11 (portalapp.pcoconvin.eventsai…) on volcanic ash monitoring, and in particular, towards an automatic classification of the particles. Please, drop by to discuss/chat!
