a repeated story about @duckdb is that its so fast that you have to run the query twice to make sure you didn't do something wrong. The pattern continued when we published the benchmarks below

This is the third serious security breach at Okta in ~2 years.
Okta sells security as a service: and yet it cannot secure itself. In the past we know it did not follow security 101. Yet another inexplainable incident.
Who can trust Okta after all this?

The original SQL paper (1974) really stands the test of time
CPUs were 20,000,000,000x more expensive per flop in 1974!
SQL is 50 years old: older than the Internet, hard disks, Linux, x86, and CMOS RAM;
yet SQL remains in service to people today, for the exact same use cases

By getting rid of React they saw a 50% reduction in TTI. We have finally gone full circle.
Time to write everything in vanilla js!

I removed dotenv from my Node app and moved to --env-file flag on startup script.
Then that let me remove a dynamic require and my app startup time went from 1300ms to 1ms

I’ve never seen any proof that having high WIP and highly parallelised task work has ever resulted in high throughput.
People assume it is true because that is why they did it.
Everything I’ve seen shows the opposite.

Why Markdown will take over Rich Text editors. It has excellent features such as Admonition (Call-outs), Mermaid, and Drawings, all included in text files.
But to paint the bigger picture and the critical difference between markdown and Rich Text: Markdown stores the style inside the content (`**=bold`, `## headings`, etc.), and with rich text, it’s stored within the tool (Google Docs, Webflow, etc.).

Interesting tidbit here: the wordpress code is actually not maintained on github, it's on core.svn.wordpress.org/ instead (they still use subversion over there) weakening that argument somewhat. I wonder if someone will point this out / if it's relevant.

There it is folks: @photomatt's attorneys make it clear that he thinks you're all idiots at his mercy for choosing to build a business on Wordpress.

In about 2003-2005, Flash was so ubiquitous, the company that I worked for at the time actually had their website main menu across the top made in Flash.
It had sound effects and animations.
It was glorious.

"Best practices" is horrible phrasing.
"Sensible default" on the other hand, sounds great!
I wrote a small TIL to help remind me of this after listening to a great interview with Martin Fowler on the Book Overflow podcast.
Can recommend the episode!

I can report that in the ~5 years or so since I last tried it, @MicrosoftTeams for Mac has not improved and is in fact still molten dogshit.
Back to the web browser for Teams calls I go; will check back in 2029.

Almost two months since I tweeted this and I've used jujutsu exclusively the entire time. I want to write something longer form but the tweet form: jj is fantastic and I can't see myself going back, only one exception is I drop down to `git` for bisect still. That's it.
