The truest form of privilege is to be born with a desire for constant change. Most people find change uncomfortable. But in the modern world, becoming wealthy and happy depends on embracing constant change and growth. If you naturally enjoy change, count your blessings!

So much of the Anthropic FUD this year has just been cope from investors who are not in it
over the lifetime of the business they have spent less than $10B might be the most capital efficient business ever in the history of Capitalism

A key reason for America’s success is that we have very patriotic and competent elites Many countries have an elite who is mostly dedicated to extraction followed by a move to Switzerland But American elites are builders who stick around

New SBF interview in @TheEconomist just dropped. He is still fully in denial The parallels with Elizabeth Holmes are remarkable - neither of them can accept reality about what went wrong

*SPOILERS* I’m shocked at how bad Billy and Elizabeth’s judgement is Asking for $ from a movie that you’re making to show people you don’t want $ is a bad decision CHANGING YOUR MIND about it later on is catastrophic! All of the downside, none of the upside
Just watched You Can See Everything Lived up to the hype. A modern masterpiece. A Baudrillardian nesting doll. 10/10

I think Elizabeth definitely knew that Billy was asking for money, and when she said ‘I’m not benefiting from this movie financially’ that was one of her classic pedantic lies - she technically isn’t benefitting bc her and Billy have separate finances, but she knew Billy was

The central message of the movie is that being pedantic and Reddit brained is terrible for your life and can land you in prison

NFTs will make a comeback. It’s a matter of when, not if
NFTs are an area of crypto that i think deserves another look the 2021 boom and subsequent crash left a lot of people with a negative view of them, but the underlying concept still makes sense to me as more businesses move onchain, NFTs could become a useful way to represent ownership, experiment with revenue sharing and build communities around products i expect there's still a lot of room for experimentation beyond the NFT models we saw last cycle

“But when a long train of abuses and usurpations, pursuing invariably the same Object evinces a design to reduce them under absolute Despotism, it is their right, it is their duty, to throw off such Government, and to provide new Guards for their future security" What courage!

Movies from our era often get knocked as being all sequels, derivative, super hero nonsense, etc. Nathan Fielder completely defies that trend. He is clearly a novel and groundbreaking artist whose work will be consumed and debated for many generations to come

superintelligence has finally unlocked humans to do the work they are really good at: dealing with permissions issues and signing up for accounts on websites

The difference between meeting someone in person vs. on a Zoom call is subtle, but meaningful, and it compounds quickly per meeting If you've met someone 10 times in person, vs. 10 times over Zoom, you will have a significantly better relationship with them

Prediction: the Q3 slowdown in growth was mostly due to idiosyncratic factors (Meta reducing spend, Opus 5 being a bad model) and Q4 growth will resume the previous trend
The meeting is over and some numbers are starting to be reported by people who were in attendance. Anthropic's third-quarter revenue rose 45% to $16.8 billion. Revenue in the first quarter was $4.7 billion, and $11.6 billion in the second quarter.

Using AI to try and develop something novel is where you really encounter its limitations It consistently anchors on the way things work right now despite updating memory, being reminded constantly, etc. Human intelligence still feels much more flexible

Zuck is totally unafraid to follow his gut and trust his judgement. On paper, Alexandr Wang was a strange choice to lead a frontier lab, but Zuck went for it, and it looks like it is paying off
Mark Zuckerberg says Alexandr Wang is the sharpest entrepreneur of his generation: "Alex is the guy. He's the fucking guy." "Alex and I had spent a bunch of time talking over the years, and maybe once every few months or something we'd talk. And I was always just very impressed by how he thought about things strategically." "I kind of had this view of like, all right, currently he's doing this very operational data business, but it always felt to me like he was the sharpest entrepreneur of his generation of the ones who I had a chance to meet." "I think maybe when we got started, a lot of people were like, okay, like how is this going to work? It's like the social media guy is working with the data guy. Like, are we going to build a frontier lab here or what?" "My really strong conviction is because I talked to all the leaders of all the labs, all the heads of research, all this stuff, and I was like, no, Alex is the guy. Like he's the fucking guy." "We need this kind of strategic clarity that he has around the different ways that we want to approach this, the kind of extreme focus on talent density, on the clarity of communicating the different vision which we kind of fashioned together over this period." "And a bunch of things that I think were kind of extreme but have basically worked, like having this very flat culture was something that you were kind of really obsessed with."

According to this, the best weather in the world is in Ethiopia, Yemen and Eritrea LA only has 150 perfect days and Asmara and Sanaa have ~220 If a post AGI world means that everyone moves to the places with the best weather, will these places become incredibly popular?
I made a tool where you can see where in the world has your favorite weather most often (it's the California coast). You can also pick a given day of the year (like today, October 11), and see where on earth is most likely to have it. weather.theojaffee.net
