I feel good about the Yankees' chances to win tonight. I feel good about the Yankees' chances to win the ALDS if they win tonight. I feel good about the Yankees' chances to win the ALCS if they win the ALDS. The path is still very clear and there for the taking. We control our own destiny, and that's all you can ever ask for. I firmly believe we are the better baseball team.
But it also feels painfully reminiscent of last year in Toronto when we said "Okay, we'll just win the Game 2 Fried-Yesavage matchup and be fine" and we know how that went. It would be a fool's errand to have irrational, unwavering certainty in winning any playoff game. Let alone a road one. Let alone one at the house of horrors Trop. Cam could get clipped and that's that. Or he could shove and it won't matter if the Judgeless lineup reverts to its anemic midsummer form once again, and I don't think anybody would be stunned.
The AL is ours for the taking if we win tonight. Or the season is dead and buried if we lose, once again to a divisional opponent that deep down we all feel like we should have had home field advantage over. And it'll be yet another chapter in the Aaron Boone book of Yankees teams that couldn't win the big one because they withered when it mattered most. For that to happen again this year in such a putrid AL, in a year where Judge is 34 and Cole is 35, in a year where the next season holds so much uncertainty, would be an absolute embarrassment.
I don't want to live in that world. I refuse to live in that world. No choice but to believe. LET'S GO YANKEES!!!!!!
