An urban marsh habitat aids in carbon sequestration, provides an excellent area for breeding fish/birds, and filters city water runoff. Love Your Wetlands Day is well-named for an underappreciated resource.
CORRECTION: Mark your calendars for Feb. 4 - Join Chancellor Khosla & UC partners at Love Your Wetlands Day & #CAClimateActionCorps Community Climate Action Day at Kendall-Frost Marsh, a rare protected urban #wetlands managed by @UCSanDiego: calendar.ucsd.edu/event/love…

If I'm up at 4:30 am that usually means insomnia. Today it was to have a great conversation with @jessicakjensen and @GanapathyDeepti about Strategic Communication in the Digital Era youtu.be/kYLTmygRxbo for @iimb_official @IIM_Bangalore. Well worth missing a few hours sleep!

Our new tiny climate change and aquatic life ambassador’s @Birch_Aquarium open to the public next Friday, July 15.
After touring 120ft., 36K gal. ocean-atmospheric simulator @Scripps_Ocean, world’s largest outdoor earthquake simulator @UCSDJacobs, dozens of research projects from power grids to viruses, @NSF team visited the Little Blue Penguins @Birch_Aquarium: ucsdnews.ucsd.edu/feature/ns…

I spent a great day documenting the visit of @NSF Director @DrPanch and his team during tours of @UCSanDiego research that will affect the health of our oceans, our built communities, our bodies, economy and environment. Not a bad day. Read all about it: ucsdnews.ucsd.edu/feature/ns…

How has America changed in the last 20 years? After 3,000 people were killed on 9/11, Americans accepted some limits on their liberty to prevent it from ever happening again. (1/2)

It's an interesting time for government v. pharmaceutical industry. Not surprisingly: 8 in 10 Americans prefer major government action to control skyrocketing drug prices. A little surprising: There's strong bipartisan agreement. westhealth.org/press-release…
One of my aunts died from coronavirus in 2020 and more than six family members were infected last year. Each endured a variety of symptoms, including none. I'm now one vaccine shot down, one to go! #StaySafe #GetVaccinated
Stay safe. Get vaccinated. We all have a role in bringing the COVID-19 pandemic to an end.

It’s not everyday that you’re invited to write a story about how computer intelligence can be deployed by social workers to disrupt the cycle of violent crime by intervening before those situations escalate.

#ArgueBetter I couldn't agree more that arguing is a lost art. I'd like to say it's worse now, but the country has emerged from many bleak periods when opposing views seemed insurmountable. They weren't. Now, if only we can get our Presidential candidates to take part in this.
In American civic life, we need better - not fewer - arguments. @AspenCitizen is now offering free trainings and new toolkits designed to help you #ArgueBetter. Join the Better Arguments community today. buff.ly/3cGsCJq @allstate @facinghistory
Thank you @GanapathyDeepti for inviting me into your virtual MBA classroom. Your students asked great questions. Glad I could offer some first-hand insights on the evolving “new normal” in Organizational communication. #Communicatinguncertainty

Representation matters, so I'm happy to have a small cameo in @amberfriastv's story featuring a few Black women discussing a historic event. As we finished a man walked by & asked, "Why did you choose HER to interview?" Representation matters. nbcsandiego.com/videos/black…
Correction: Tomorrow's equity discussion is 8/20/20 not 4/20, which is an interesting slip considering that I often can no longer confidently state the day of the week, month or year. events.handbid.com/auctions/…

A heartfelt and timely expert discussion of race, equity and sincere inclusion, sounds worthwhile to me. So many of us are asking what's next? Start by listening. Two opportunities tomorrow 4/20. events.handbid.com/auctions/…
It is absolutely OK to not know something, especially the complexity of systemic racism. Being Black doesn’t mean I understand every nuance either, but not knowing and not being willing to listen, explore and learn is a bad combination.
Many people find themselves wanting to understand how to practice #antiracism but have no idea of where to begin. @ucsdlibrary has put together a guide and collection of learning resources for those ready to examine racism and anti-blackness > ucsd.libguides.com/antiracis…

This is just the type of story that makes my reporter's brain perk up. She left the ministry after 13 years to become a UX designer and write a relationship advice column. Cheers to exploring new horizons. extension.ucsd.edu/news-and-…
