To #HLPF: without real debt relief, including thru cancelation of illegitimate & unsustainable debts, your call for accelerated action on #SDGs will NOT be met. We need just, democratic rules on borrowing & lending.
#CancelTheDebt
#UNDebtConventionNow
which cost developing countries an unparalleled $1.4 trillion in 2023 alone. The cause is not lost for fairer, democratic rules in lending and borrowing. Support the call for a #UNDebtConvention!
#CancelTheDebt
To #HLPF - As Bangladesh’s presents its SDG national review, we note that almost 17% of national revenue went to external debt repayments in 2024, while a mere 3.08% was budgeted for health. Meanwhile, it lags behind in health indicators, such as a maternal mortality rate
of 163 deaths per 100,000 live births or more than double the national priority target of 70. (SDG Tracker, Bangladesh). Prioritizing debt service puts lives at risk. We need a#UNDebtConvention to establish fair and democratic rules on lending and borrowing.
#CancelTheDebt
🌊Time and again, we are forced to borrow in the aftermath of crises we did not create, driving us deeper into unsustainable debt. This cycle cannot continue," said the Alliance of Small Island States (AOSIS) in a statement to #FFD4, hoping for bold actions from the Conference.
countries stand in the trillions of dollars. But debt service payments eat up funds for the #SDGs and other development needs, while loans continue to be aggressively pushed as climate finance upon the majority of Global South peoples who least contributed to the climate crisis.
We call on the delegates to #HLPF2025, as you ponder how the $4 trillion++ SDG finance gap will be closed — we need fairness and democracy in global debt rules, and shift away from IFI and G7 dominated spaces. #UNDebtConvention #LeaveNoOneBehind #CancelTheDebt
To #HLPF: SDG5/Gender Equality faces a $360B annual gap. Not surprising with debt interest payments eating up education, health & social protection budgets in the Global South. Remember the pledge #LeaveNoOneBehind - Women's rights first, not debt service!
#CancelTheDebt
#HLPF2025 comes at the heels of #FFD4, where a weakened #CompromisoDeSevilla brought us no closer to addressing massive debt burdens that block fulfilling many #SDGs. Democratizing debt governance would have been a key step towards finding durable solutions,
including debt cancellation, to the SDG's annual financing gap of over US$4 trillion. The fight continues for a #UNDebtConvention!

📢Call them out! #EU, #JAPAN, #UK are effectively opposing #DebtJustice in #FFD4, protecting a system that impoverishes millions in the Global South with burdensome debt.

⚠️The #UK and #EU are actually saying NO🤚to democratic debt governance demanded by the Global South, blocking chances for an #FFD4People and hindering urgent action on the DEBT INJUSTICE that the Global South already bears. @debtgwa @NepalUNNY @NorwayUN @ZambiaMissionUN

The #EU and #UK are stopping the global south from having a say by blocking UN-led #debt reform in #FfD4 outcome document. 👎

Join us for a two-day India-focused tribunal examining the World Bank and IMF's impact on our nation's economy, development, and the growing debt burden.
🔖 Organized by Working Group on International Financial Institutions

About the Tribunal:
The Independent People's Tribunal on the World Bank/IMF @ 80 will bring a critical focus on the World Bank and IMF's influence in India and across the Global South. As these institutions mark 80 years, people’s movements and organisations under the Working Group on International Financial Institutions have come together to examine the cross-sectoral impacts of their projects on India’s economic and political sovereignty. Through testimonies, case studies, and a formal chargesheet, the tribunal aims to expose how IFI-funded projects have affected communities, heightened inequality, and shaped India's development trajectory.
