The AI-era press releases packed with buzzwords have heralded a new era of bureaucratic obfuscation. The press release tell you precious little about what a scheme intends to do.

In almost every kleptocratic country, there are brave muckrakers exposing the powerful and the corruption they would keep invisible.

There are many things to critique about helicopter foreign correspondence. But I do think that a passionate and informed outsider can provide unique insight, which is why I love to read foreign correspondence about America, especially by writers from the global south.

Cultural practices in Nepal continue to carry caste and gender inequalities. The country needs approaches grounded in its own histories, social relationships, and ways of transmitting knowledge.

I may have missed it, but the last I heard, the PM was at Palanchok Bhagawati, then NPL yesterday. As a voter, I want to know his priorities when disaster survivors face an uncertain winter and severe weather looms this week.

Rest of World’s audience struggles are not unique. Media companies that previously largely produced written content have found themselves scrambling to adapt to a world dominated by short- and long-form video consumption. semafor.com/article/10/25/20…

Viral videos claiming that China has seized Indian territory in Arunachal Pradesh and that troops are engaged in border clashes have triggered alarm and anger online. We traced the footage to unrelated sources, including a 2023 military briefing and a video originally posted by a Kazakhstan-based account, exposing how old and AI-generated content is being presented as breaking news.

How @realBobWoodward got his secrets: washingtonpost.com/investiga… A fascinating account of how hard Woodward worked as he wheedled and browbeat sources into sharing inside stories.
Treat Theories as Undergarments!

Did I miss something? A couple of months on from the Bhotekoshi flood (followed by other natural disasters) I haven’t seen Nepal’s government communicating to citizens about its short and long-term plans for affected individuals and communities. Surely these are in place, though?
