I write in @AJEnglish on India's unemployment crisis.
Beyond numbers, I report on what the crisis looks like for young firstgen graduates in smalltowns, villages. And, why the crisis is structural.
This is how Indian squanders its demographic dividend

The stagnation of real wages continues apace. Even The Economist acknowledges it. But Indian policy-makers continue to ignore this alarming trend.

The @epw_in is an institution. But we do not know much of where it came from. This is an affectionate story by Alaknanda Patel of 'The Economic Weekly' , the forerunner of EPW, seen from close quarters. theindiaforum.in/history/sac… @TheIndiaForum

There were very few world leaders with the courage and principle to advocate for Julian Assange while the West relentlessly persecuted him for a decade for exposing their multiple grave crimes.
It won't matter to the average Brazilian voter in tomorrow's election (understandably so: most struggle to overcome basic deprivations), but Julian -- on the eve of Lula's last election tomorrow -- commendably recalls that Lula (for no real political gain) always crusaded for his freedom (Lula did the same for Snowden):
Lula vs. Bolsonaro: I was held in solitary confinement for 1,901 days for revealing the truth about the U.S. government's killings and espionage, including against Brazil and its industries. Out of power, Lula fought for my freedom. In power, Lula discussed my persecution with Pope Francis, who decided to meet with my family and offer help. After my release, Lula and I met in Rome to mourn the Holy Father's passing. Lula was kind to my children and asked for nothing in return. In contrast, Jair and Flávio Bolsonaro did nothing and said nothing. Yet without the ability to say no to Washington and Tel Aviv, there can be no domestic policy, only foreign instructions. Those orders are always the same: "Expand our theft of resources and wages, and keep your mouths shut about us murdering children." Sellouts will surrender everything in exchange for a cut, even their own tongues.

Finally, India Today admits that they were part of a hit job against @newsclickin , making false claims of Chinese funding , which led to the jailing of editor Prabir Purkayastha and the shutting down of operations of one of India's best independent news websites, which platformed all workers' protests ignored by the mainstream media. Amid this, one of the intolerant sanghi anchors continues go shout and interrupt.

The cult of personality plays straight into the government’s hands. It reduces a mass movement to a few leaders, making it easier to defame, deflect, corrupt or control the movement.

French Presidential Candidate Jean-Luc Mélenchon:
Gross domestic product. I dig a hole, GDP goes up. I fill it in, GDP goes up.
I get into my car, drive into a wall, GDP goes up because we have to rebuild the wall and repair the car.
GDP is just a monetary valuation.

Anwar Shaikh has left this world.
He was so clear in his thinking that he left a deep imprint on the thinking of generations of New School students and readers behind.
He would always insist that we had to get the first principles right. If you start from an absurd model and then argue the world is imperfect measured against that standard from cloud cuckoo land, you have gone astray with no way to return but to start anew.
He wanted to rebuild economics from scratch going back to the classics and in this process became a classic himself.
It’s hard to picture economics without Anwar. As we are challenged to rebuild the basics, we need his thinking more than ever. Thank you for leaving your writing for us. May you rest in peace.
