seeing her slip out of the restraint and fall to her death on video is terrifying

An 18-year-old woman died after falling from a mechanical amusement ride at a festival in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico

as a fellow bob fan and coaster enthusiast, i agree
dear god the restraints are already locked they're just messing with them why is everyone so dumb
Check out this video from a while back showing riders on the same Goliath roller coaster where a man was ejected this week, trying to lock in their safety mechanisms while rising to the top of the first drop; this ride was a disaster waiting to happen.
Readers added context they thought people might want to know
Riders in the video are tightening already-locked ratchet lap bars while ascending the lift hill (normal on B&M clamshells like Goliath); bars lock pre-dispatch & only tighten further.

these mfs would die if they saw phoenix or any other coaster with crazy airtime
I went on this ride one time. The lap bar wouldn’t go down all the way because my thigh size was in between clicks so there was a small gap between my thighs and the bar. Thought I was going to die

Mako uses standard B&M clamshell lap bar restraints; small gaps or play between ratchet clicks is normal and expected while the bar remains securely locked with redundant mechanisms.

Six Flags Over Georgia Death: Victim's family wants photo of fatal fall erased. tmz.me/4i5XvcK
i don't think any of the goliaths have seatbelts or did have them, and even so the seatbelt unbuckling wouldn't do anything
I almost died on Goliath at Six Flags 15yrs ago. My seatbelt malfunctioned at the beginning of the ride but luckily I was able to fix it before the 1st big drop. Never been so scared in my life…
Readers added context they thought people might want to know
Goliath at Six Flags Over Georgia was only 5 years old at the claimed time and has never had seatbelts as described.

all of the coasters that were/are named ride of steel were/are intamin hypercoasters with no inversions, so how did you go up-side down on a coaster named ride of steel, there's also no coaster named "man of steel" 🤨

I would just like to say, roller coasters are consistently one of the safest activities you can possibly do for fun out there in the world. What happened yesterday should NOT have been possible, and it represents an extreme outlier case. Don’t let fear mongering get to you.
can tmz just die atp can't even use the right coaster when talking about a serious accident

I’ve always thought roller coaster accidents should be treated like plane crashes—something extremely rare that still should be investigated thoroughly with the goal that it should never happen (even if that’s impossible to achieve).
I also wish there was the transparency we see with FAA reports.

A scary situation at Six Flags Over Georgia; reports are flooding in of a rider passing away after falling from Goliath. The train supposedly came back with the restraint open. Goliath is currently closed, along with other B&M hypers in the chain
