If you watch only one video today, you should watch this edit with @SymoneDSanders from last night, speaking on the 92%. And when I tell you I’ve watched it three or four times and get choked up every time— this one hits hard.

15 years ago, I stood outside the gates of the International Criminal Court in The Hague as a 16-year-old girl, dreaming of becoming a lawyer. My Dad believing in that dream took me there. This week, I returned as a human rights barrister, speaking internationally about racial justice in UK courtrooms, with my mum in the audience watching me. I spoke about the importance of recognising racism as an international human rights issue. Anti-Blackness must be understood and challenged within this framework. As a human rights barrister, my legal arguments in court are grounded directly in international human rights law I was once told to downplay my commitment to Black liberation to get through institutional doors. I refused. This week, that same commitment brought me to UNESCO. Sometimes, the doors you once stood outside dreaming of entering are the very doors you walk through on your own terms. “Thus far the LORD has helped us.” 🏛️✨

Thank you, New Mexico! It is the honor of my lifetime to be elected your 33rd Governor. Tonight, you made history. You chose a future where New Mexico comes first, where working families have a chance to get ahead, and where every New Mexican has a voice. I know the challenges ahead are real. But I also know that New Mexicans have never backed down from a fight — and we are going to tackle these challenges together. Whether you voted for me or not, I will always be your Governor, too. Because this campaign was about all of us, and the future we deserve. Let’s keep New Mexico, New Mexico. Let’s build a brighter future for our families. And let’s get to work.

The fundamental understanding she brings here is one that's never actually articulated: the culture wars aren't happening because "liberals" want everyone to be trans. They're happening because the right sees enormous value in keeping these fatuous framings on the front pages

Only 15% of capital flowing from major financial institutions goes toward business investment. Where does the other 85% go? Citing research by economists Moritz Schularick and Alan Taylor from 2014, Financial Times editor @RanaForoohar explains how Wall Street increasingly trades existing assets instead of financing the real economy.

Ursula K. Le Guin in 2014: “Hard times are coming, when we will be wanting voices who can see alternatives to how we live now, can see through our fear-stricken society and its obsessive technologies to other ways of being…We live in capitalism. Its power seems inescapable—but then, so did the divine right of kings. Any human power can be resisted and changed by human beings.” During the feudal era, the greed and power of kings ruled society until the people fought back. Now, in the capitalist era, the greed and power of billionaires rule society. Like the kings, they think their reign will last forever, but it will only last until the people rise up and change it. Different eras, similar struggle. The struggle of the people to liberate ourselves from the greed of the ruling class and the power and wealth imbalances of top-down hierarchical societies. As powerful and inescapable as capitalism feels, it has no power without the people and the workers who make it run! Once the people figure this out en masse the world is ours to collectively share together!

🇧🇷 LULA CONVIRTIÓ LA BURLA EN UNA LECCIÓN DE CLASE. Flávio Bolsonaro quiso ridiculizar a Lula llamándolo “nueve dedos”.

This story is extremely important: A whistleblower revealed that Brazil's far-right Bolsonaro family dynasty met with Meta to discuss US plans to interfere in Brazil's election, to prevent Lula from winning. Lula's Facebook and Instagram accounts were censored a few days before the first round of the presidential election. This had a huge impact on the election, because Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp, which are all owned by Meta, are the most popular apps in Brazil, and are hugely influential all across Latin America. (Jair Bolsonaro's son Flávio was declared the winner of the first round of the vote, by a narrow margin.) Meta later admitted that Lula's accounts had been restricted, but it claimed that this was supposedly due to a "technical error"... The whistleblower who disclosed this is Nadia Beller, a Bolivian journalist who was almost killed by hitmen hired by Fernando Cerimedo, a far-right Argentine political operative who oversees election interference, bots, and disinformation campaigns. Cerimedo is closely linked to the US government and has worked for pretty much every right-wing leader in Latin America. He was photographed with Donald Trump Jr. and members of the Bolsonaro family, and he received an award at Trump's Mar-a-Lago resort in Florida a few months before he was arrested for the failed assassination attempt against Beller, his pregnant ex-girlfriend.
